Change needs to happen but I would love to see this flood of coaches I've been told about all this time
It is one of the top jobs for a football coach. Having said that, you have to be very careful when getting rid of a current coach who is still doing ok, because you can end up in a worse situation. We've seen it happen at some big time programs. We've also seen successful programs hold on to their coach too long and wait until the program is a mess before making a change.
Timing and luck is what it really comes down to. Usually the really good coaches already have good gigs and are being paid really well. So one of them has to be ready to make the move because (for whatever reason) they aren't happy where they are, or it's a better situation for them and their families to make a move. Still some of these will end up staying where they are and take the raise and contract extension offered by their current program.
Hiring a successful coach from smaller programs can turn out great. It can also end up being a disaster.
Florida hit the jackpot this way with Urban Meyer. Then he burned out, quit, and was available to come back when tOSU needed a coach. Saban realized the NFL wasn't working and just so happened Bama needed a coach. Jim Harbaugh was fighting over control and egos with the powers that be with the 49ers, and Michigan needed a coach, and he just happens to be a Michigan man. But it took them a while and a few coaches to get it right. Brian Kelly went from Cinci to ND. He is at a disadvantage their because ND has higher academic requirements, so he is actually doing very well considering he has to pass on players who are NCAA eligible but not ND eligible. But supposedly ND is his dream job, even though another program may offer him more money. Then again, I think he is a slimeball so he may take the money and run. ND is private so we don't know what he makes...just speculating.
Then you have good coaches at smaller programs in the big conferences. Some of them will be willing to make the move, but no guarantee they work out. Some do better getting more out of players, but don't know what to do when handed a ton of talent. So they are better suited for smaller big conference programs.
Problem is when you don't have that slam dunk, gamble on it anyway, and it goes bad.
We've seen power house programs go into the shitter because the people in charge are idiots. Alleva is our AD and an idiot. He is the whole reason we are in this mess with the contract extensions and insane buyouts and the main reason Chavis left.
So I'm definitely worried. The program is in the hands of an idiot and a group of people with a ton of money. LSU spent the dreaded 90's with idiots and powerful people making decisions who had no idea what they were doing.
If they are smart, they will keep Miles unless we have a slam dunk big time coach ready to sign now. Even agreements in principle and verbals can go bad at the last second. Those verbals become more likely when they are made public, but someone currently coaching another program usually doesn't want that to be made public until they sign and show up for the press conference.
I know it was a long post, but LSU football is one of the top jobs, but the timing has to be right as there are many factors that influence a coach's decision.

Miles isn't even fired yet you dolt. What do you expect to hear in late November when the position isn't open? And you sure seem conflicted for someone who is on board with the change. Get off the fence, it's unbecoming.

Cmon now bee, leave the dumb thread making to me aite?
Besides, LSU doesn't have an opening, why would anyone bang on the door with Miles still in seat?

I finally figured it out. Look Manny, you will do fine in NC. You're dad, well he's going to have $15 mil to fall back on. And look at the bright side, you will no longer have to listen to people you've never met before question your father's intelligence. This is a win for you Manny. Good luck out there..

Exactly the type of post that I would expect from you. We've known all along that you're a Les fan and not an LSU fan. You're exactly like the Paterno fans that wanted Penn State to burn in the wake of his departure. You're disgusting.

This was a spinoff thread I posted last night stemming from someone posting a thread about how every coach in America wants to come to LSU and every coach thinks Miles sucks.

You're a lying piece of shite.
And you wonder why people attack miles? It's because of bullshite posts like this.
Miles is gone. Get over it and you can follow him somewhere else.

What you were told is correct. LSU is a dream come true for most coaches. But what do you think, they're going to give interviews on ESPN saying they want to leave this shithole their at and go to LSU?
When Nick Saban heard the LSU job was available he jumped to it and had his agent contact LSU. It wasn't in the news until after he was hired. What more evidence do you want?
