Seems like we have guys with the credentials out of HS, but nothing more than average on the field.

bozo post. Ridley was a beast this year. I was frequently amazed at how he got an extra 5 yards that just wasn't there.

At least 15 times this season, I've said "Thank G-d for Ridley. Otherwise we'd have no offense at all."

He's the MVP of the offense and its not even close

Correct

This
We keep hearing certain backs for certain situations.
How about getting coaches for certain situations---like coaching these very talented backs into well rounded backs.
To be honest, we only know about Ridley because of injuries last year.
I have been told that Ridley was coached into the player he is, I just can't agree with this.

Yeah, Scott had a huge start to 08 and then crashed and burned down the stretch.

and his 2009(scott) year is why Ridley will not be back next year.

it is also part of the reason we do not have a dominant back.. because you need multiple in the sec for them to stay healthy. especially with the defense being able to key on them with our lack of a passing game.

We have had dominant running back after dominant running back at LSU every year. We dont always know who its gonna be, because were loaded. The only problem is dominant running backs dont work with GC. He's a west coast, pro type, throw the ball for 3yds OC. Our dominant running backs dont get the ball enough or allowed to get into a rythem. When they do we win. Give any of them the ball 20+ times a game and let the OL push and we dominate and dont need trick plays to win FB games.

PS Ridley is a beast and you could see he wanted to carry us all year, but GC knows better.

Please stop posting. We just had a back go for over a thousand, and thats with limited carries in our cupcake games. So 900+ against BCS AQ competition and the best rushing defenses in the nation.

But he didn't have a dominant game against EVERY opponent. He didn't rush for 2000. He didn't score 22 TDs. He didn't put the team on his back EVERY game. Heck I could rush for 1000 yards behind our OL.

(Seriously, Ridley is as dominating every down back we've had since Toefield, and less injury prone).

How about a dominant passing game to give you RB some help.
I'd say Stevan Ridley getting over 1000yds averaging 4+ per carry with a pass offense that is the worst in the conference and ranks 107th nationally is pretty dominant. People don't give Ridley near enough credit. Its to bad the OPer fails to recognize circumstances and can only relate dominance to the player that gives him a hard-on whenever he touches the football

'Nuff said there. Spot on jm3.

To have a dominant running back you have to be committed to running the ball.

Wisconsin has power backs because they are committed to it. If you put Ridley in the backfield at Wisconsin he would be considered a elite running back based on the numbers he puts up.

We run this quasi spread attack. As long as we run this offense our backs will not be really considered elite power backs.

This! LSU fans always have to find the negatives. Ridley had a great year and if you think that the offense was below par that makes his season even more impressive.

As for having one main back I think diversity is better. I would rather have 3 or 4 guys that can do things out of the backfield then to rely on one back. One injury and he is out.....with 3 or 4 you always have fresh backs and defenses can't focus on one style of back.

Ridley had a really good year. LSU splits the running duties fairly well. I thin 1,000-1,100 yards is about all you can ask for a back in this offense.
