I’m the youngest of three boys, and we all played baseball. The College World Series (early 1980s) was played on ESPN about the first week we were out of school for summer so we watched the games including the hidden ball trick performed by Miami (Skip was an assistant coach and mastermind of the trick play.)

Skip gets hired at LSU and builds the program up. He was a helluva salesman. I remember playing American Legion baseball at Forest Road park, and one of the dads had a radio tuned to the LSU baseball game. LSU won that game and finally made it to Omaha. So now LSU was playing on ESPN.

2 biggest memories from those early CWS teams was listening to the radio when Pat Garrity got the hit at aTm, and watching Ben giving up the opposite field grand slam to Stanford’s Paul Carey.

I played baseball at Belaire 89-91, and we would get in to games at the Box for free if we worked as the tarp crew, cleaned the stadium after the game or helped work the field (raking, tamping the batters box or running the hose on the infield). I can vividly remember raking the mound as Ogea worked the hose one time. This was between games of a tournament of 6 teams (3 teams from Louisiana and 3 teams from Oklahoma).

Anyways, I love college baseball especially LSU baseball. I was lucky enough to be in Omaha in 1996 to see the Morris home run against Miami. Also, I was able to hit a home run at the Box in Summer league back in 1990.

I’m 52 so my best guess is my LSU baseball fandom really started in 1986 when I was 13. It’s hard to believe that I’ve witnessed LSU win 8 national championships in baseball. But damn it’s good to be the King.

1986. We were getting really good that spring, and remember at one juncture LSU was 37-2 for the season and ranked #1. I had never payed any attention to LSU baseball prior to that campaign.

The Box was horrible back then. Just splintery bleachers and horrible hamburgers/ hotdogs.

1991. Some of my Army buddies were fans and were following their run in Omaha. After that I followed them when they were on TV and when I moved to Baton Rouge in 1993 I went as often as I could, usually just grabbing tix with the Left Field Lunatics. My wife bought me season tickets for graduation in 1997 and the rest is history.

1985 season after watching the Miss St. series and winning 2/3. They were the pinnacle of SEC baseball at that time. We didn't make it to Omaha that year, but it was the beginning of the juggernaut that is LSU baseball.

I am with you here.

First games I ever went to with my dad was the Saturday doubleheader, where they played 2 7-inning games. State was ranked #1 coming in. Jeff Brantley shut LSU out in the first game, but the Tigers scratched and clawed their way to a win in the second game, and I was hooked.

At some point that night, either Palmeiro or Clark hit a ball that may have landed on top of the PMAC, but I forget which one hit it.

The next day, the game was on TV, which may have been a first, and LSU won again. No doubt this series was where the seeds were starting to grow.

‘96- I was 12 years old. I remember like it was yesterday, sitting in the living room. My older sister was sitting in the middle of the floor packing her suitcase for her senior trip…. Warren Morris hit his walk off and the excitement got me hooked.

But, it was hard to follow back then because very few games were on TV.

I became much more invested as an adult, and since the ability to stream most all games.

Times were different then but my dad took me to Starkville when I was 2 or 3. The first game I remember was lsu state doubleheader 1988 or 89. I remember meeting Ben and he signed my glove. Spent the rest of the game trying to run around instead of watching the game. Fast forward 5 years later, and watching lsu in the Dome. My dad and I would sit and watch from the first game all the way until lsu game finished. Been hooked ever since then and those pinstripes on Friday nights.

Skip brought in the San Diego Chicken for a mid-week game vs. LA Tech. That's where it all started.

My dad never watched sports at all. When I was 10 my oldest sister married a guy who had played baseball at LSU in the '70s. Big rowdy gameday bbqs at their house were my first exposure to sports fanhood. Actually went to NLU with a brief stop at Western Carolina but your first team is always your team.

Ben McDonald era. 80s. We would make it to the world series, but didn't break through until '91, winning it all. Then the flood gates opened. And you expected to win it every year. And we kinda did. Ever since then, and until now, if LSU wins their first game in Omaha, look out. They will probably win it all. Very few instances in last we 35 years where that is not the case.

11 years old at the time and I'll never forget where I was and who I was with when I watched it. I've been hooked ever since.

Dad took us to some games in skips early seasons. Literally you could run around under the grandstand. Went to one of skips first baseball camps. Listened to every pitch of 1989 regional on radio before tv. Attended regional in 1990 and those usc games were classics.

and then you gave up on the team in 2023...some fan

Lamabe was the coach. Late 70's, maybe 100 folks in the Box.

Saw some interesting games.

My first game was probably 1981. May have been 1-200 fans. The umpire knew my dad and offered me a ball after the game. I went to Skip Bertman baseball camp in 83 or 84 then started going to games after that. Usually we would just watch from the chain link fence between the bushes in RF. Late 80's I started going to most games. I have great memories of the 6 team regionals. Seems like USC came a few times and were really good then...One of the Boones, Brett I think, was crushing the ball during those regionals.
