It filled up for the 2nd half of 2009, because we were really good. Students barely showed up for the previous 8 seasons. Even in 2006 the student was basically empty for the 1st half of the year. You are full of shite if you think the student section stayed full from 2000-2008.

More $$$ from the people paying for those seats instead of students being there.

LSU doesnt give a damn about the noise the students make or the atmosphere. It's all about LSU making extra $$$

Its not just LSU. College Basketball in the whole state is in the toilet when it comes to fan support. Tulane can barely fill half the 3600 seats in Fogleman. UNO has been averaging under 1000 a game for about 15 years now, way before they tried that stupid DIII move.

Back in they heyday of the 80s and 90s, LSU would get at least 10k a game for the better games. Tulane, when not on self imposed exile due to point shaving, would fill Fogleman. UNO would pull between 2k and 4k, when when USL came to town they would get 7-8k.

It's been a rotten 25 years for Louisiana college basketball.

No doubt. Having a consistent contender will do just that, and we're well on our way. I never understood why more people didn't go to games when I was in school. There was always a group of 3 or 4 of me and my friends that would go to all the games. We sucked 4/5 years I was in school, but still... It's free basketball.

^ This. I was there from 2004-2008 and always went to the games. Granted, we just got used to the upper level seating because we weren't in that 350 or so that were allowed into courtside seats. That was a really stupid configuration IMO

Move the band and media and give it to the students and you have plenty of good seats for the students.

117 - 121 should be made student-only. Band should move to take up the top half of 228 or 227. They don't even fill 120/121 with their current configuration though they are given that entire area to sit. Media should be moved to 335, 336, or 337.

The caveat to a media move being that I don't know if they're required to have media officials in a certain location by the SEC. Assuming they're not, throw them up in the cheap seats that have the lowest TAF fees tied to them.

Real easy solution, don't lose much (if any) season tickets. Students get lower bowl seating and make a more impressive, potentially intimidating crowd. Certainly not as nice as it once was but significantly better than it currently is.

Agreeed about the media and the band. The media should be at least in the upper part of the middle level, maybe even in the upper level. The band should be in the middle section. Way too many lower level seats are wasted due to the media tables and the band.

I would not be happy with the SS if I was a student. However, since the powers that be have moved them to the baseline seats, let's go all the way with it. Split the SS into two and have a section behind each goal. If there were enough students, you could get some energy going in the place.

I don't understand having the media section in such a prime spot in the gym. It'll eventually move IMO. The band's spot isn't terrible though.

Media used to be courtside across from benches. There were two rows of tables. first included TV and Radio like the current setup. Print media were also over there. Guess they make more money off people paying for those as seats now.

If I remember correctly, it was moved during the middle of the "dark age" of Trent Johnson. I want to say before the '09/'10 season.
3 reasons:
1. LSU wanted to make revenue on the sideline tickets that students were occupying.
2. Student section looked like this: for nearly every game.
3. Trent Johnson put a low quality/very boring product on the floor and attendance dropped significantly all over the PMAC.

And yes, I'm still bitter about the TJ era.

It's hard to watch from behind the basket. It's just not something you're used to.

What LSU needs to do is have something similar to Michigan State's student layout. Several schools use this layout and IMO it's the best layout in basketball. Looks awesome on TV too

As of now, it makes sense that the students don't get prime seats like this, because they don't show up unless we are doing good. But I honestly believe the student mindset of LSU Basketball is going to change for the better and will be making the PMAC a tough venue to play at here in the next few years.

My theory on why the student section/PMAC just doesn't get intense is because of the somewhat comfy seating. I guarantee if our entire student section were bleachers all the way up, like at the bottom, then everyone would stand up and of course make more noise. I get the feeling that nobody in the PMAC, outside of a few students, just don't want to be "that guy" that cheers his/her arse off. The only people that do this will eventually stop because they realize that they are the only ones doing anything.
Let's face it, it's "un-cool" to cheer your arse off at LSU hoops games this day and age.

With all of that being said, the students and fans have improved a lot these past two games. I have really high expectations that the PMAC will be rocking next Tuesday

It'll be tough to move them back to the sidelines now that season tix holders have a taste of the view.

I also really miss Matthew Clark, aka "Superfan" and "Crazy Hair".
