A friend of mine is doing a story on a certain game in TS and she was just wondering when did the band become known as The Golden Band From Tiger Land?

Good question. I was in the band in '69 and that's how we were introduced, so before that.

I once asked Linda Moorehouse that question. She had no clue either.

When I was a syudent late 90s the plaque above the student gate said tbrough this gate marches tgbft. The sign was made in the 50s I think. Not much help sorry.

That sign was probably installed in 1972, the year after TGBFTL won the only head-to-head college band competition ever held. (Films were submitted to a group of judges to pick the winner at the time.)

Since that was way before my time, I have no idea when the name started. The histories I have read seem to indicate that the name under Castro Carazo, who was hired by Huey Long, in the 30's was "The Show Band of the South".

My first year of watching LSU football with my Dad. We went to the Auburn game - we won 21-20.
I'll never forget the drum cadence TGBFTL played when LSU had the ball:
"Gooooo....dum dum dum - dumdump....Goooooo...
dum dum dum - dumdump...Goooooo big tigers....
Gooooo...dum dum dum - dumdump...Goooooo!"

Miss that so much. I like it so much better than the quick 'da da daaa DAA, Gooo tigers!' 'da da
daaa DAAA, Gooo tigers...'

I loved that cheer with the drums. Did it all the years I was at LSU. Around my 4th year in the band it was "Go, Go ahead, Go, Go ahead, Go, Go ahead, Go Big Tigers!"

I remember that game: opening play from scrimmage for Tigers they had a QB at back and tossed out to him (?Gilbert) and he threw to ?Jones? for a TD. Auburn safety was 20 yards away when he caught the pass.

And Bevin blocked the extra point after Auburn scored the "tying" touchdown. He was supposed to lay back on two point protection they said.

Was VERY hot in those old wool uniforms they used back then.
