We could reallly need everyone to get healthy for a late season push.

Smith?
Storz?
Gilbert?
Labas?

Anyone else I’m thinking about that may be nicked?

Storz on track for midweek return

Freshman right-hander Nick Storz threw a simulated game before Saturday’s contest against Arkansas, and looks to be in line to make his second appearance of the season this week.

“He was painless, he felt good, he wasn’t real sharp because he hasn’t had much mound time,” Mainieri said. “But I think it’s going to be good enough for him to go out and pitch some on Wednesday.

“I don’t know if he’ll start or come in out of the bullpen, but as long as he feels good over the next two days he’ll have … an appearance on Wednesday.”

I'm guessing today is an off day.
PM usually meets with media, maybe Tues afternoon before practice he will have an updated report.

Storz will likely pitch Wed based on his report Sunday - I'm guessing 1 or 2 innings.

Smith was on track to possibly return and I'm guessing PM would want to see him play a few innings Wed in advance of the weekend series.

Labas probably gives us our best option for the Sunday starter unless you don't use Bush in relief and give him another start.

Gilbert is probably still a long relief option at this point and he probably gets an inning Wed to sharpen up. I'm wondering if Gilbert ends up with some offseason procedure. He's never seemed like himself all year.

Thanks for the updates fellas.

Yeah I like Labas a lot he’s seems like he has good composure on the mound. It worried me when PM said he had stiffness after the game.

I agree with the Gilbert statement, his velocity hasn’t been near what it was last year and he also seems to run out of gas a lot sooner.

Looking forward to getting Smith and Storz in the lineup. Anything they can give at this point will be a bonus.

I could be wrong but I think people are reading too much into this. I think the kid just got cold. He had thrown 70 something pitches and had to sit for awhile while we beat up on Arky pitchers.

I really dont think it was injury related stiffness

Gilbert didn't get up on Sunday...even as we put the tying run on in the 7th after starting the inning with a 5 run lead.

It won't surprise me if we've seen the last of Gilbert either due to injury or just due to his mental makeup (at least for a while).

Besides us putting up the 4 runs, there were also a few
extended stoppages and we had several plays reviewed in his latter innings.

Even though the game moved very fast, he was on the bench for long periods in his last few innings. Hopefully it was that and not any kind of injury.

Storz to pitch Wednesday .... whatever but if we lose to instate La.team RPI will tank even if we win 4 games out of remaining 6 SEC games

It will be Johnny Wholestaff for McNeese and Northwestern St. If you can't win those games doing that at this point in the season, it probably means you don't belong in the tournament anyway.

Every game is important from here on out.

Per CPM, no Smith this week.

Gilbert to start Wed, with Storz getting 2 innings.

I’m pulling for Gilbert. Really seems like a good kid. When he’s on, he can really help get this team over the top. I just wish he was more fiery.

His game vs Oregon St last year was one for the ages. No doubt everyone is pulling for him.

For the noncoaches among us, what does a simulated game consist of?

No. PM said he is getting better at his radio show but does not want to risk it. He said best case scenario would be Auburn or the tourney

A simulated game would be throwing the pitches called and someone (not an actual umpire) calling balls and strikes. Most times a batter will stand in but not swing. Sometimes, the coach will even call hits, outs, etc. If they were in a cage, the batter may even be swinging. The pitcher will go through normal routine such as working out of the stretch, working signals with a guy on 2nd, taking a break after 3 outs, etc.
