re: What's with all the negativity regarding Mett?

This hasn't been entirely true. There has been separation on several deep throws. Unfortunately, those are low-percentage passes, and either WR's haven't made the play on the ball or the pass has been errant.
He is determined not to turn it over anymore and his completion pctg has dropped. Terrified of the INT.
The windows are too small and he errs on the side of caution. I don't think Les has a problem with the stagnant offense if the game is won.

Yeah the amount of hype was an issue that led to fans setting themselves up for disappointment.
I recall reading a few posts I believe last weekend saying his completions would be something like 78% (if I recall correctly) if removing the dropped balls from the equation. I haven't verified that myself, and of course a portion of dropped balls could be contributed to by QB mistakes, but even so I believe if the WRs step up, we'll be set.

I hear this a lot. What is this based on? Also, exactly how does this affect his on-field performance?

that's my position. now, i also assume he's the best we got so i am adjusting my expectations and hoping for the best.
agree

Slow drop, slow setup, no mobility, no pocket awareness, no field awareness, locks on one WR, doesn't check down well, telegraphs passes, constantly overthrows the deep ball and has no touch. But he real tall and has a strong arm.

It's pure speculation on my part. He doesn't seem to carry himself with the confidence of a leader.
I think the effect on the on-field play is minute, but it most certainly exists to some extent in the amount of drive his teammates have, whether subconsciously or consciously.

Every LSU QB since 2007

Well, he hasn't had much success as a passer. I assume that when he completes more passes, his body language will tell a different story.
I think the criticism is off-base.

It's not their fault, it is o-line and wr and lack of executions fault.

I definitely see Mett as a huge asset compared to our most recent QBs.
At this moment?? Hell no.
Potential for the future? To be determined.
He can't run. One of those "most recent QB's" you allude to was a very good runner.
He missed several open receivers yesterday. That "other recent QB" would have hit several of those yesterday.
He is what he is...no doubt about that. But maybe ole Leslie was onto something last year when he was playing the senior QB's...and the QB who could run a little.

He is the most unathletic person on the field at any time, officials included.

What are your expectations of him given the WR and O-line situation?
At the beginning of the season these were legit excuses. You can throw in some poor play calling as well. But the last 2 weeks the WR and O Line play have been good. The play calling has been good as well. Mett has sucked. Plain and simple.

I'm going off of my own interpretation of how failure should affect confidence, as well as the way I practice it IRL.
Driven by success
Motivated by failure

You missed the 2010 football season, and the last two games of 2011?
It's a repeating pattern among QB's at LSU. Unless it's a stationary target it isn't going to be complete. There were a few exceptions, but not many.
This years batch doesn't get open and exacerbates the problem. Anyone looking for something drastically better in the near future will be disappointed.

I know Mett is now playing in the SEC where defenses are better, but think about this...Mett nearly won the starting job at UGA as a freshman. He was kicked off and Richt later admits he was too hard on the kid. Then, he goes on to light it up in JUCO.
Now, he comes to LSU and has been in the system for well over a year...and NOW just started sucking. I really blame coaches more than Mett. When you look at recent history with QBs who lit it up in camps and were considered these freak physical specimens (JJ and JL both highly praised) and yet we find ways to suck with them. Sorry, until we see a QB play consistently well, I will continue to blame coaching.
Maybe these receivers just aren't very good and he never knows where they're going to be. Lotta factors here to look at.

Yep.
Isn't something that will get "fixed" anytime soon IMO

Why does everyone want to blame the coaches? Honest question, have you ever heard stories of Mett having a great work ethic and spending the extra time working on the position? I sure haven't.

We gotta stop blaming the kids.
I understand that kids drop passes, make bad reads, and do dumb things - but they're 18-22 year olds. Its the coaches' job to get them ready to play and to make sure they know better than to run at a 10 man front. I assume everyone on the team can count to 10. Certainly coaches that make millions of $$$ per year should be able to get kids to count the men in the box and audible to the hot read. If the hot read is too predictable - then once again - that's the coaches' problem.
Our issues are all related to coaching. We have great defensive coaching and bad offensive coaching. It plain to see for everyone who watches the games closely.

The ONLY thing that has disappointed me about him is his accuracy. His decision making is about as good as it gets for a QB starting for the first time in the SEC.
I think he will only get better, he needs us to be positive and good times will come. This year, he needs to just play within himself and execute the easy throws.
