They don't employ any kind of sub-packages like LSU employs on obvious passing downs. So I believe LSU will be able to put more pressure on Lawrence throughout the game. However, LSU will have to watch out for draw plays to Etienne cause if he breaks through, he is gone.

Only two things Venables can do that's new : Drop all 11, blitz all 11.

I'm certain that Joe Burrow has watched film from when Venables was at Oklahoma. JB9 is that kind of dude.

Except for Simmons, there are no special players on defense. However, they do play very disciplined on defense.

Maybe the LSU OCs actually throw new looks at them? Make Venables go, "Oh shite, what's that?" Forward thinking, not reaction thinking. ???

This is really the only option bc no zone is gonna be good enough, but you have to have all elite cover guys to have a chance.

Also, Clemson has a tendency to struggle with tempo. We'll run no huddle and give them fits.

This is my question for our resident and unwanted Clemmy fans, too.

Please give us a detailed explanation of what Venables can do to stop Burrow... Hell, I'd even settle for a high level overview.

Let's see...
He can double team Chase, Marshall and Jefferson.
Put the Isiah Simmons guy on Moss.
Put two spy guys on Clyde (one for run and one for pass).
Put one spy guy in case Burrow runs or throws a pass to himself.
That leaves one defender to play Nose Guard.
That Venables guy is a genius.

You people need to get yourselves under control. Bama was blowing people out last year. Had a prolific passing attack, and run game, Best QB in the country, etc...etc....

Clemson shut them the frick down and blew them out on national tv in from of everyone. I hope this doesn't happen to LSU, but don't believe Venables isn't capable of doing it. It's been done.

Venables had a much better defense last year though.

Given the amount of time Clemson has had to prepare plus the fact that they have championship experience says to me that they’ll slow us down. But they will not shut us down.

It’s as much if not more about how well LSU’s D does at getting some stops IMO.

Find number 11 each play. Know where he is.

You do realize that they had three DL that were high draft picks from last year’s team, right?

Everyone believes Clemson will have to blitz Burrow and actually sack him consistently to win.

I think Veneables will try to mix it up as much as possible to try to confuse Joe and his offensive line.

Isiah Simmons
He will be one of the pieces they move around, but he's one guy. LSU has so many weapons they can bracket Chase, shadow CEH with Simmons then Jefferson, Moss and Marshall are going to eat them alive.

To be fair to Alabama... Clemson did not in any way shut them down until they got to the redzone. Alabama consistently moved the ball well most of the game, but Clemson either ended the drives with turnovers, or stops inside the redzone. Alabama kept going for it on 4th down and kept leaving with no points. Clemson has been extremely good in the redzone under Venables.

For my Tigers to win Monday night the game will have to go pretty much the same way. Turnovers and redzone stops. I imagine LSU will have good success until the field compresses and the results there will determine the outcome.

I may be reading a bit too much into your post, but if we get to a point where we "need" to run a trick play, we're in trouble.
