What’s the story with Bain hitting in yesterday’s scrimmage?
I saw on Twitter he was 2 for 3 with a double and a one of the leaders in exit velocity. Anybody know the story behind this?

He started hitting in the Fall. He's the very very backup infielder similar to what Strall had been the last few years. He brings more to the table as a hitter than Strall did (not hard to). It's probably unlikely that he'll get any real hitting opportunities (like a start at DH or something). He may get a chance late in a blowout game or something.

He was listed as a two way player his freshman year though and was a very good hitter in high school.

Not enough people talking about this. In a year where pitching seems to be thin (at least experienced pitching), I find it interesting that PM is allowing him to again focus on a dual role.

He has been inconsistent on mound and it gives him another way to contribute
He played mostly 3rd and ss at Dutchtown and hit in middle of lineup but focused on pitching when he got to LSU

It gives them a reserve infielder and if no one steps up at 2B he could see or compete for time, who knows.

He's the reverse Buzzy Haydel.

And don't even bring up Strall's career batting average to dispute my claim that Bain is a better hitter.

He was his high school district's All District MVP his senior year at Dutchtown.....as a shortstop. He also pitched some.

He was recruited by other colleges as a two-way player.

Per his coach, you never knew what you were gonna get out of him on the mound from week to week. That has continued to his college career. Kudos to him for sticking around and being a career tiger.
