I'm pleasantly surprised. It appears McMahon is doing a decent job in the Portal. With the talent he has coming in, if he doesn't make the NCAA tournament next year his seat should be on fire.

just seems like he is compiling low tier talent like he did last year.

I predict we will increase drastically. Even double our SEC wins from 2 to 4! McMild doing work

First, it's not complete. So any thoughts right now are premature.

That said, he's brought in two experienced guards who have a history of success in solid conferences (both first team all conference last year). While the SEC is is a step up from the WCC and AAC overall, it's not the same as going from playing in a one-bid league to the SEC. I don't think it is fair to expect Stewart and Cook to produce at the same rate in the SEC as they did last season. But there is also no reason to think they will be completely overwhelmed either.

Wright is an experienced, solid, SEC player. He's unlikely to be a "star". But he is someone you can rely on to contribute and occasionally have a big game here and there.

LSU is hoping Baker can provide them with production somewhat close to what KJ Williams did last season. No, I doubt Baker will be looked upon to carry the team offensively. But a big man who can score inside a stretch the defense from deep is always welcome.

Ward and Reed are Sophomores who showed flashes of ability last season. It's why they were top 70 recruits. If they can improve upon that and become more consistent, LSU will be all the better for it.

Fountain was pleasant surprise last season and should continue to be a great role player. Hannibal is tough and brings some excitement/explosiveness off the bench. Wilkinson is basically a 3 and D guy who could also be a key role player.

There are reasons to believe LSU could be better offensively (perhaps much better) next season. Defense and rebounding still look like big concerns. While explosive offensively, both Cook and Stewart are sub 6'2 guards. And right now, other than Fountain, I don't think you can look at the roster and say anyone is a solid rebounder.

Hopefully there is development from a player AND coaching standpoint. Hopefully, last season's bi-weekly SEC arse-kickings were an eye-opener to the level of competition for McMahon and with a year under his belt he knows what adjustments are needed to compete.

Last year's preseason expectations were the lowest in a while. This year's preseason expectations will be significantly lower. McMahon burned through the benefit of the doubt last year, and LSU will likely be picked to finish in the bottom 3rd of the SEC going into next season. Possibly even last. That's not a death knell for the season (ask this year's Kansas St team). It just means McMahon has to prove it on the court before people will give LSU respect.

Better than last year, but I guess that really isn't saying much.

I want to see who we finish with.

Give me Joe Girard and Russell Tchewa, and I'll say we're considerably better off than last year and we'll have somebody who can plausibly fill all of the key roles on a basketball team.

Having said that, we're going to be too short at guard. We're not going to have enough athletic 6-5 to 6-8 guys who can defend, rebound and run the floor. We're likely going to lack a real Windex man on the glass, though Tchewa would help that some. I don't know who we'll have who can stop guards from driving the lane on us.

Having said that, that roster, if he finishes it the way it looks like he might, could be one which on any given night could shoot the lights out and beat just about anybody. He'd be able to put five guys on the floor who can bury 3's all night. So if they consistently did that, they could actually win some games despite some deficiencies.

So even with SEC talent M M can’t get it done? Would Bruce Pearl get 6 conference wins with last years roster? I’m not happy with the program now either , but it seems it’s a talent issue above all.

Expecting this to be a top 50 tourney team is just dumb.

We will be improved offensively, especially from the guard position. I also expect to see improvement from a few of the returning players.

I'm mildly optimistic. Talent level will be greater on offense if McMahon let's them run some and doesn't insist on walking it up the court and set up the big men every time. It definitely should be a more fun team to watch with some guys who can actually dribble and shoot. We've got the guards, now will our three big men come through. We need a lot more consistency from Fountain and Reed. Baker I think is going to be big time good.
How many more wins does this create? Who knows but I am hoping for 10 SEC wins with the latest portal gets. NIT?

Recruiting sucks:
On3 = #49
24/7 = 36

Until this is corrected, LSU will not be relevant in basketball...
