I was watching this clip from 1971 vs Notre Dame, and I was unaware our helmets still had the numbers. I though we had switched to the tiger head and LSU logo in the mid to late 1960s. LINK

There were 2 tiger head logos used by LSU. I think the original smaller tiger logo was first used in '72 & was changed to the current larger logo in '75. I may be off a little on the years, but wanted to clarify that there are actually 2 tiger head logos that were used.

I think the numbers are classy. I'd like to see LSU go back to them maybe for the Cotton Bowl. Go retro with the jersies too. Wear the ones with the numbers on the shoulders.

Thanks! Didn't know there were two. So the current one has been used for the last 35 years, approximately. I was off by about 7-10 years.

Agreed. Use royal purple and old gold while we're at it.

I always get a little laugh when I hear people freak out over changing our "traditional" purple and yellow uniforms or the helmet logo.

Just because it's been our look YOUR whole lifetime doesn't mean it's LSU's "traditional" look.

The truth is that in its history LSU has changed its look quite a bit.

I have video of the 1944 Orange Bowl where LSU is playing A&M dressed head to toe in gold. Imagine that!

I liked the numbers better. In the early 70's teams were starting to put logos on their helments and LSU was a bit behind the curve. So they put the little Tiger above the ear holes and it always looked like something done quickly by an equipment manager rather than a well thought out plan. Now, of course, it's tradition.

Eternity is the correct answer. We have always had the exact uni we have now, and any changes in anyway are turrible.

I still don't understand why someone would ask this question on a message board rather than just looking it up like you did

Not the helmets. NO!!! Too gumpish at this point. The jersey throwback would be great. I would also love to see the field in Tiger Stadium painted like it was back then.

BTW, I loved the old over-sized razorback logo on the Ark. Helmets. The new logos are too small & the edges are too sharp...IMHO.

Same reason all the geeks ask questions about tickets instead of calling or emailing the ticket office. Same reason they ask questions about the band, instead of contacting the band office. Same reason they complainawhine ad nauseum about everything on the Rant, instead of contacting the appropriate person in the atletic department.

They get off in seeing their posts up on the board. It's kind of like a status symbol amongst young professional message board geeks.......

TV numerals went out in the 70's for a reason. Logos look better. You already have numerals on the front, back and the shoulder or sleeve of the jersey. Don't need numerals on the helmets.

Only "Simple things for simple Minds" schools that wear Crimson and White do...........
