Look...I really want this experiment to work...but if Ensminger really has success with our offense next year...he will have to go down as one of the most under utilized coaches in the history of college football.

agree, but that was his choice. Up until now he did not want the oc job. He is a former tiger who bleeds purple and gold. I also think he has been around football long enough to know what it takes to be successful. Lets give him a chance and support this man. I truly think he will be successful

You really are an Idiot. EXECUTE!!! That is the word, Danny didn’t EXECUTE on the deep throws. That’s what the man is saying we need to EXECUTE the plays at hand and if we do we win. Easy.

There you go EXECUTE, if he did it right we WIN period. People want to blame SE for the two L’s but you have to remember that he calls the plays and the players have to EXECUTE them right.

Pretty obvious that most in this thread either didn’t watch the game or know absolutely nothing about football.
I get the point you’re trying to make. The plays were there, we lacked execution. And that is correct. Several plays we had the right personnel and play called, but we didn’t execute. In fairness this was against the best defense in the country with an extremely weak QB.

Until we get a competent qb it doesn't matter what plays we run or who calls them.
It's just this simple really.

Dude, we are talking about the new OC, not the old one.
I see SE running a more up tempo offense run out of several different sets to create positive mismatches against the defense. We have the talent and depth at WR, hopefully the route running will improve and everyone will know the plays.
The biggest concern we should have is how well will our QB's perform in this offense. It is the execution of the plays that will dictate how successful SE is as a play caller.
Thanks to the OP for starting the thread, hopefully we can get more threads like this than some of the other SE threads that have popped up since he was promoted.

Glad someone else saw this! After the 2nd drive, I texted my dad and said, "Etling is a deer in the headlights!... This will be a long game I am afraid". I remember texting that like it was yesterday.ha We still should have scored at least once, but Etling was nervous AF....and it was obvious to anyone watching.
I agree. The problem is even a great QB gets the yips after he's been pummeled a few times. I've seen the rare occasion that a D got multiple shots on Brady and he suddenly looked like a very average QB even when he wasn't pressured. The hit Etling early and he never settled down after that.

y'all obviously dont remember it was more on execution than play calling.
will the canada hating football ignorant morons say this about this year and finally admit his concepts were just fine? or was it the playcalling because O's meddling?

So all that would be great if it actually worked. I get that you are saying the problem here was Etling and I 100% agree....I think he (with a lot of help from Zero) is what held Canada's offense back. I hope that Ensminger's offense will be a well oiled machine with Brennan under center....but I'm certainly not getting my hopes up
I'm not laying it all on Etling. Wrs did not help with poor routes, wrong routes and drops. Blocking was inconsistent at best. There was plenty of blame to go around. I did not think it would take so long for Canada to get his offense implemented. Did O have a hand in that? Perhaps. Did Canada have to tailor the offense to Etling and not use the middle of the field and intermediate routes? Probably.
For better or worse those issues should go away. Does that mean SE's offense will work better? Maybe, but an unrestricted Canada in year 2 with the skill sets of Brennan and Narcisse would likely be successful as well. We'll never know.
I'm not advocating for anyone. I just try to give an honest assessment of what I see.

The use of RPOs could be awesome. I really hope we feature them prominently. Even with limited talent you can really put stress on a defense. The way the Eagles used Foles in the divisional round, for example, would be a great way to create easy looks for a young QB.

Everyone has to remember that SE was the OC at Louisiana Tech when they had the #1 offense in college football. I think the man can get it done.

I don't hate Canada at all. I think he's a great offensive mind. I have said all along that there were mitigating issues that led to the Miss St fiasco. Injuries along the OL, Guice's health and players still not grasping the scheme led to the outcome. By all accounts it was AFTER this game that O intervened and asked to simplify the scheme and reduce some of the motions. No one knows to what extent that intervention was, but considering we scored 7 points vs Miss St and had multiple offensive penalties it seems like a reasonable request.
Was there more to it than that? I think it's reasonable to suggest maybe O lost his shite and went after Canada and essentially destroyed the relationship. Canada probably didn't handle it well either, but it's all speculation.

I'm not sure if you are joking, but so was Gary Crowton and that didn't work out so well.

Wasn't even his offense and had less than a few games to prepare. Plus we have a substantially better quarterback and receivers and defense.

Appreciate what you were attempting to do in sharing the article. This wasn’t about the 2016 Bama game or criticizing players.
