And this is what makes Skip Bertman the GOAT. Skip Bertman was a great coach, a great recruiter, a great program builder, AND a great promoter of the game of baseball. He built the fan base at LSU. Fans didn’t just show up because they were winning national titles. Skip Bertman created a great fan experience that was growing before they even won their first title in 1991. Just listen to the stories of him sending asst coaches to the crowd mid game to ask fans if the hot chocolate is warm enough, are the nachos fresh, etc.

Jay Johnson had some very good teams at Arizona, but was he doing anything to build a fan base? Scheduling games on work days at 2:00 and constantly moving game times on the weekend due to a 15% chance of rain isn’t very fan friendly.

Jay is free to run his program how he wants, but I was just pointing out what made Skip Bertman the greatest college baseball coach of all time.

when we move a SEC Friday night game up to Thursday at noon because it will be 3 degrees warmer I’m going to be pissed.

The only reason an SEC game would be moved is because of inclement weather (rain or lightning) and the final decision would come from the league office after both coaches agree to it.

Jay seems like he loves tinkerin with the game times

So you’d rather games get rained out, postponed, or cancelled?

Was yesterday’s game time moved up? Did it rain yesterday?

This isn’t the first time, I’ll never forget the sun delay for the 2023 Super Regional game 1.

Jay seems to be a damn fine South Louisiana amateur weather man.

Most of the game time moves have worked out perfectly for him. The first month of baseball season is about getting reps and determining your lineup before SEC play. Jay does not like missing reps and getting games canceled. So far he has done a damn fine job of predicting the weather and getting his games played.

but it has been an extremely frustrating season for fans.

No it hasnt. Its been rather enjoyable actually.

Id much rather NOT sit through rain delays or freezing temps and I'd be willing to bet I am not the only one.

For most people who go to the games, especially this time of year, they have to be decent followers of the program. These arent exactly high profile games being played right now. So I would imagine that if they are planning on going to the games, it is probably the top priority of the day and may not have a lot else planned. So adjusting game times doesnt really effect them all that much. And if it means they dont have to sit in the rain, its probably a pretty welcomed change.

Would rather sit at the park for hours while it rains?

It was Nicholls coach who called Jay about moving the game in the first place.

Building the fan base isn’t his job. He can schedule every game for 10 AM for all I care as long as he’s winning.

Winning builds a fanbase.

Jay has done the right thing about starting times, IMO.

Small chance of a light mist. Can’t risk anybody getting wet. Player safety

But more to my point, Skip Bertman was able to do it all. He won HUGE, and he made fans want to come to the ballpark. Do you think Jay Johnson would ever have the San Diego Chicken come and participate at an LSU game? Do you think Jay Johnson would ever have "Denham Springs Night" when Ben McDonald is due to pitch?

Jay is riding the coat tails of the fan base that Skip Bertman built.

Jay is a great coach, but the next time he has a conversation with Skip he should ask about being more welcoming to the fan base.

This is awesome. Just a few years ago LSU baseball was rarely broadcast.

I don't get the entitlement here

I don't know man, I remember being able to watch nearly every game on Justin.tv (the predecessor to twitch) during Alex Bregman's freshman year in 2013? That was 12 years ago now.

So you’re saying Jay is not welcoming to the fans because he doesn’t ignore the weather and have 4-5 games rained out per year, and he doesn’t bring the San Diego Chicken to perform at the Box?

Skip was one of a kind, and this isn’t the 80’s. You should be happy to cheer for a program like LSU and a coach like Jay.
