What LSU game earned Burrow the mean assassin moniker?

Herbstreit was the first national mainstream analyst that I heard really gush over JB9 with the praises of mean competitor, stone cold assassin, rip your heart out etc.

I'm trying to figure out which game in the regular season was the one that Herbie and his fellow talking head colleagues latched onto. Was in the obvious Texas 3rd and 17 game, or was it the Vandy game where Joe was practically following them to the sideline and raising 5 fingers?

I agree UGA 2018 was the first time we really saw Joe Burrow.

This started it. 3rd & 17 solidified it.

UCF cheap shot. Kid got up and proceeded to rub his nads all over them.

I think UCF and 3rd and 17 were the beginning, but the stone cold killer was on full display for everyone to see in the Vandy game. To me, that's when the world was put on notice to not frick with this guy.

Eh, I almost forgot about the pageant wave to the UT fans with his trademark smirk. That was actually probably it

Getting in a scuffle with Miami players before his first game should have opened our eyes. He showed flashes of being a straight gangster throughout that year. His legend status was first taking form after the UCF hit, imho

That A&M game. He led LSU to 72 pts even with the shite officiating in that game....

For me it was Miami when he didn’t back down pregame.

When he gashed UCF after being decked and then waving goodbye to the UT fans after the 3rd and 17 play was when I knew he was him

I would say he popped right back up... but he showed some leadership there for sure. Didn't let it keep him down. I'll say this, i was curious as to why Dillion, i think, looked over at him and just walked on towards the LSU sideline.

There were a lot of good moments and games to pick from to see that with Joe ... UCF bowl game, UGA 2018, shoot even the Miami pregame dustup in 2018.

I think the first time I actually heard media and announcers start to use the "assassin" phrase with Burrow, though was in the Ole Miss game where he ran in the TD and took a cheap hit from one of the OM defenders and then just stood there against the endzone fence staring the guy down. That zoomed in shot on TV of his cold staredown is when the hype around how "cold" he was and what an "assassin" really started. Correct me if I'm wrong here. :)

It was 3rd and 17, IMHO.

He was noticed in '18 for several plays and games, but lots of guys were being talked about. Lawrence, Tua, Fields were considered better, and even the Texas QB Ehlinger was potentially above him.

Sat night in Austin on national TV, crowd screaming (with McConaughey on the sidelines stirring shite up), facing a huge 3rd down in a tight game under a heavy blitz, the nation watches as he cuts Texas' heart out.

This though he didn’t pop right back up. But he definitely gathered himself and they rest as they say is history.

Alabama 2019. He wouldn't be where he is if we lost that game. It would have been another "great" like Fournette that came up short in our biggest game.

Fournette had monster games in big spots, no different than Burrow. The tipping point in their trajectory is how they performed in our biggest game.

If Tua wins that game, runs the table and wins another NC, he would have won the Heisman, been the #1 overall pick, etc..
