re: What is this "exposed PVC pipe" on Tiger Stadium all about?

You ever notice why mike is always in one of two spaces? Because the jackasses that designed it didn't plan that he might like the fricking shade like any living being would on 100 degree heat! Luckily for us those two locations are by the front wall so we get to see him.
That sounds like a sneaky plan to make sure he is always front and center for people to see.

Who was the G.C. of the west side expansion? Wasn't it Mapp initially and then Lemoine came in to save LSU's arse? Or am I just dreaming that?

That's what some are whining about ?
Hang a sign over in front of it that says "1971 Sun Bowl Champions".

My guess on the Mike the Tiger enclosure is we wanted to get as far away from reminding people how little is cage was as we can. Probably a good idea

Yeah, no. Would look just as retarded and sloppy as the pipe itself being exposed.

But who is at fault? I'm not saying I have a huge problem with it but there are probably at least 4 different parties that could have been responsible for the mistake.

Obviously TAF and Alleva!!!! (tongue-in-cheek)

Oh no... CAN NOT UNSEE!

Even though it is small people have a point. You spend millions of dollars on this project and have that sticking out? It would be funny to start a major petition to TAF about it though...

Seems like a pretty easy fix to just hang down a sign that says "Welcome To" on the left and "Death Valley" on the right. I'm no engineer but I wouldn't think that would compromise the structure. You may be able to see it from directly underneath but who cares.

I would assume that Trahan, but ultimately LSU/TAF decided against full remediation due to it being a massive frick up. It would be very expensive to have to demo a portion of the structure to get the pipe back inside of it.

Great idea.

I think you are right. Best bet is to add something that would cover it up and of course you'd have to do it on both sides.

In the other thread were you talking about the SEZ project or the champion's plaza project? As far as I'm aware the gates will remain the same for CP project. As for the SEZ project I have no idea.

I don't have a set of plans to look at to answer that question. I seriously doubt that it was by design though. I'm sure there was some issue where it was supposed to be core drilled in the concrete but once they were out there, realized that couldn't be done. Still, regardless of who was at fault or what the details are - it should have been alleviated through a change order. Maybe that's the point. Maybe LSU is at fault because they had a set state budget and no change order could be issued to fix the problem, so what you see is what you get.
It's not a huge deal. It's just that some of us happen to work in a field of construction of some type, whether administrative or technical. For me, my OCD kicks in when I see that - the same as when I look at a crooked picture on the wall.

If they'd paint that white PVC pipe black, it may hide itself better

While I agree that in the grand scheme of life this is an inconsequential mishap, I, like you, appreciate details and well thought out plans. I It is one difference why contractors are contractors and architects are architects. Each of their respective professions offer something the other does not with different talents devoted to each. Secondly, I think we all like to take pride in monuments such as Tiger Stadium and would like to boast about such a fine addition. If it were indeed a gorgeous piece of architecture, we would likely be able to just look past the pipe and say "my, what an accident about that pipe, but OH how wonderful the rest of it is." It's like buying a brand new house, the overall is so intoxicating and exciting that you will look past the minor defect. In my house I have dark brass hardware on all my plumbing fixtures, towel racks, door handles, yet one chrome faucet, wtf? BUT, what we have at LSU is an ugly construct that failed at providing us a gateway monument (hence the two gate like openings, at least that's what the owners wanted) that LSU was hoping for. Thus, every single defect is magnified because there isn't an awestruck building presented to us.
In regard to the West Side Expansion pipe, I believe it was a simple case of irresponsibly review the drawings in collaboration with one engineer and another. I don't have the architectural elevations in front of me, but I would tend to believe that pipe was not drawn in that set. I still lay blame and disappointment with the owner since it's his (theirs / ours since we help fund it) building and his responsibility. Somewhere along the way, we imparted TAF/LSU the authority to make important decisions. Sure the architect should have been more careful in planning, but to not change a clear and aesthetic mistake is ultimately the owners fault.
Technically I am not familiar with the sequencing of construction for that expansion, so to try and figure out when the issue was discovered is hard to say. I'd be willing to bet it came down to money and either Yates or the plumbing sub wanted too much, always seems to be the case.
I find it interesting that the GC does not feature the West Side Expansion on their company website, tells me what they thought of that project.
just my opinion.
PS, who ever said put the "WIN!" on it

yeah, they just need to hang a banner to cover it.
I've always hated the screen that covers the huge windows.
