What is the rule on check swing being a strike particularly when the go to 1st base ump?

Ump judgement. Initially is was the top of the barrel getting pulled back at any point in the swing. Was a bad rule.
Then it started being: if the hands pass the front of home base. Too strict.
Currently it is: if any part of the barrel passes the front of home base.
Then it started being: if the hands pass the front of home base. Too strict.

The half swing shall be called a strike if the barrel head of the bat passes the batter’s front hip. This does not apply to a bunt attempt when the batter pulls the bat back.

Go to 1st base ump with right handed batter, 3rd base ump with left handed batter.
