Bregman error vs UCLA.
Tulane series 01
Stony Brook. Especially after winning in resumption. Only to lose next 2.
Hell, there’s more than I thought. I’ll stop here. Too soon.

Big Ben’s grand slam ball against Stanford.
Mine as well. I was just a kid and it was my first memory of LSU baseball. LSU had taken the lead with three runs in the Top of the 10th and recorded the first two outs in the bottom of the 10th. Stanford gets two on and Skip brings in Ben, who hits the first guy and serves a grand slam to the second hitter he faced. Stanford went on to win the College World Series.
Fun Fact: Stanford had an OF named Toi Cook who scored on the Grand Slam. He went on to play six seasons at DB with the Saints and won a Super Bowl with SF.

Totally disagree on this. They were flat out better than us that year. While disappointing to not win a home Super, there was nothing heartbreaking about that Super regional loss. They simply played much better than us and were better than us.

I wasn’t there so hardly the worse. To me it was when lsu swept cal st Fullerton and for the next series had a video “we don’t rebuild we reload”. Then got swept by Florida. That was a long weekend and drive home.

McDonald giving up the Home Run to Stanford in 1987. That should have been Skips First Natty!

For the record, only because I keep seeing this said, it was the Top of the 9th - not that it made a difference in the outcome, but it wasn’t a walk-off grand slam.

This was my first thought as well. We were there all weekend sitting on the berm. That Tulane team was good. I felt like Kaplan always had our number when we played them.
Was class when we watched Skip walk over there and give them that pep talk before Omaha. That's when it really set in. I was 11 years old and will never forget the tears I shed when I realized that was it, and because we weren't going back to Omaha lol. I had a spoiled childhood growing up in the Old Box during that run. I can still hear the roars of the crowd.

quote:Coastal was 40-15 out of the Big South entering the postseason. They simply were a pretty good team who got hot. They were not flat out a better baseball team than LSU that year. Just like Ole Miss 2022, Fresno St 2008, etc weren't "simply better baseball teams" than everyone else just because they went on a run and won a title.

You can't look at our 2016 roster and pitching staff and tell me Coastal was just flat out better. They weren't. LSU was a top 8 national seed for a reason.
It just became more palatable for fans to digest the loss after Coastal continued their run through Omaha.
