baseball games!
The first half of the Auburn baseball season just got more exciting.
According to a report from Tom Green of AL.com, the Auburn city council has approved a proposal that will allow for alcohol to be sold at Auburn baseball games in February and March of this season.
Under the permit within the proposal, fans with premium tickets at Plainsman Park will be able to buy alcohol at a designated area of the stadium, in a section along the right-field line.
Vendors will serve beer in cups, and fans will be required to drink them only in the designated section.
The permit was unanimously approved but in its current form only covers a 30-day period, which is why only February and March games will feature alcohol sales, for now. Auburn city manager James Buston said that the vendor, B and B Bartending, only requested February and March games, likely as a test.
SEC rules prohibit the sale of alcohol at sporting events, with the only exception being in premium seating locations.
“It’s important for everybody to know that we’re not going to have people going up and down the aisles at Plainsman Park and yelling for ice cold beer,” city council representative Ron Anders Jr. said. “This will be a very controlled environment down the right-field line that you have to enter if you want something to drink. You have to drink it in this controlled area; you cannot carry it out into the stadium. They’ll certainly be checking for IDs, and it’s only for a small section of the ticket holders that will be at the baseball game.”
It’s probably a safe assumption that if enough people buy the alcohol during February and March — and behave themselves — that the city council, vendor, and Auburn athletic department will look to expand sales through the rest of the season.
The Tigers are 4-0 on the young season and take on Troy tonight at 5 p.m. ET from Plainsman Park before beginning a home series against Bryant on Friday.
There has been no word yet on which game Auburn will begin selling alcohol.

They have beer in the suites.

I’ve been saying they need to bring beer to the box first. Baseball and beer is the American way. Make it happen

Last time I sat behind the dugout you could drink but not at your seats, at least I didn’t think you could?

I know in the club and suites upstairs you can drink at your seats, I'm not sure about those particular seats as I've never sat there...

This has been a thing forever with premium tickets. OP misunderstands, I think.

I would love to see something like this between center and right field stands. Maybe a two layer deck. This is what Miss State has at the new Dudy.

LSU should sell beer at all sporting events. Just more blue law, religious zealotry pandering that keeps it out.
They're missing out on millions of dollars in revenue.

Is that why they have cow bells? Because the fans are now cattle?

Give the commoners beer, they especially need to be serving at basketball games. Why does alcohol need to be reserved for the rich? F that, I'm 24 and want to buy beer even if it's $6 a pop.

Southern Baptist admins?

I don’t really understand the need for these “tests.” Beer is sold in every major and minor league baseball stadium in the country, they need to just fricking allow it already.
