Brown is still growing as a player IMo, he has more projectability than cabrera. Definitely more speed and his power is still growing. Only 3 years removed from being a pitcher too. Definitely more projectability than cabrera. His arm is def better, his glove is still a work in progress

Just because you anre athletic enough to play CF, doesn’t mean you can play CF. He’s an average RF’er. Which means he can’t play CF.

Also games played probably isnt a good comparison for brown, at bats may be better, he was used in a part time role last year

Cabrera came to lsu as a 2 way player too.

Fair enough, ill stand by his better speed and upward trajectory at the plate

From MLB Pipeline
They are basically the same player
They are basically the same player
quote:
Cabrera Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 50 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 50

Brown Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 55 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 | Overall: 50

That scouting rank makes sense for the most part, slightly more speed and id bet picked a bit higher

Some mlb scouts think hes good enough to play cf lol

Aren’t they all throwing errors?
If a pro org is going to be fine running Ethan Frey out in CF 4-5 days a week in the minors, they’ll definitely be fine putting Jake out there in CF.
There really only has to be a kernel of the ability to play there now, they have so many reps waiting for him in the minors he will either get better in CF or be a much better fielding RF, with the same big arm.

Cabrera ended up being part of what is essentially a lost generation of prospects that got completely fricked by the pandemic and the lack of regular opportunities for development.

Well his draft profile on several sites say he is above average defender with the ability to play CF. He has a great arm and has speed. MLB scouts seem to differ on your vast knowledge and expertise.

One question was is he so inaccurate throwing the ball?
It’s different than pitching. He will get better with more reps.

Jake Brown is a much more physical player than Cabrera, even though maybe equally twitchy (and from a stats perspective). Jake is at least an inch taller, weighs more, better overall tangibles from a throw and run perspective, etc. He projects a bit better than Cabrera, but that's really just my opinion. Doesn't mean he'll be drafter higher. Cabrera was a really good player.

Brown projects on the offensive side more like Deichmann, but a more natural outfielder. To me, anyway.

High bar there
Deichmann could swing it, but man was he not a natural defender anywhere

I don't disagree. He played SS in high school, and wasn't awful. I think he physically outgrew alot of his defensive ability in the infield and had never seen a baseball hit to him in most other positions on a baseball field.

This got me down a rabbit hole of the 2020 draft. The Cardinals have 3 guys in their starting lineup from that draft, one of them being Alec Burleson from ECU. Burleson was one of at least 5 major leaguers on the 2020 ECU roster with Carson Whisenhunt, Connor Norby, Gavin Williams, and Zach Agnos.
That’s the type of mid major roster the transfer portal is robbing us of.
