And good hires happen and bad hires happen.

This narrative is silly. There literally would be no change ever due to fear. CEO sucks, well, next CEO could suck too. First wife cheats on dgnx6, so could second wife. I used to have a flip phone, what darn-naggit are you trying sell me with a touch screen, rabble rabble rabble.

I'd say he was told to hire Jones

But I wouldn't pin too much of whatever happens with the next hire on Alleva, LSU has never "gone big" hiring coaches.

Alleva hires seem overall mediocre, but I think drizz is right in that the TAF nabobs will make the real decision.

TAF approved change only.

This is what is worrisome, most big boosters at major programs are a bunch of Jerry Jones wannabes...

I'm well aware of the possibilities pumper. That commentary was for the people that think Trent Johnson was a bad hire and Johnny jones is a great hire.

No hire is more important than Miles replacement if he is replaced.

Was VERY sought after coming off his success at Stanfo
an AD should be able to somewhat assess the recruiting capabilities of a HC. TJ had no business trying to recruit in this part of the country...that, at least in part, falls on alleva

Alleva hired Cutcliffe at Duke and that has worked out well for Duke.

Jones is not a good coach. Patrick got simmons and simmons got blakeney who apparently isn't any good or as athletic as we thought. Don't give jones too much credit.

Who hired Patrick? Johnny that's right. Let's not forget this is LSU basketball we are talking about and they are on ESPN playing Mcneese St. and Kennesaw St and the lead on sportscenter a lot. It's only five games please give them more time before you just throw the whole season under the bus.

Let's not forget this was very early on in Alleva's tenure and he did not know the culture. He came from Duke which did not need to sell it's bball program. He learned he needed more of a salesman than a coach at LSU and he got Johnny. Say what you want about his coaching there is not another coach in the country that could sell LSU better than him. The exposure they are getting now will benefit the program going forward whether johnny is the coach or not.

Trent Johnson and Beth Torina are fairly instructive on approaching coaching hires. At the time, Trent was considered a coup. He had done a great job at Stanford, and Alleva rightly was given plaudits for bringing in a name coach to a program that didn't seem to merit that kind of Name. And then it turned out to be a disaster.

Torina, by contrast, was a cluster of a hire. We even held a press conference announcing Murphy as the coach, only to have him back out. There was egg on the face of everyone, and we scrambled to hire someone who was not nearly as renowned. And LSU softball has been awesome under Torina, experiencing a real renaissance.

This is to say, with hires, you never know. You can do everything right on paper and end up with a disaster, or you can do everything wrong and hire the best coach in the program's history.
