this would've have been a good first game to get practice in but i don't see where it does the team much good at this time. the only possible good i can see, which won't happen, is to let JD run up the score in the first 20 minutes or so and then let our 2d string qb get some badly needed experience. And, to add to that theme, JD likes to run the ball, is good at it, and will likely have a ton of opportunities to run even on plays where his number is not called. this increases his risk of injury.

i'll set the recorder on and check on this game regularly but hopefully the ole miss/ auburn game will be a good game to watch. I can watch our game later at my leisure and skip the commercials. I really don't like this schedule set up for the upcoming alabama matchup. our defense was improving, and we only have a gimme game and then a week off, so we don't get to continue rounding into form. fortunately, alabama has a week off as well and they definitely need the practice on offense as much as we need it on defense.

An opportunity for hurt players to sit and get healthy.

An opportunity for the starters to get a big lead early and rest.

Work on some defensive issues and make a few more marginal improvements before having to prep for Bama.

It’s actually a perfect time for this kind of game.

Army’s offense will be a great test of discipline from our defense.

They haven’t been most of the year, so this may not be as much of a challenge physically (like a sec team), but each defensive player will need to maintain their responsibility.

This is actually a great time to have this game.

Playing a game, even against an inferior opponent, is far superior to a controlled scrimmage or practice to evaluate gameplay, specifically, guys who are consistently playing out of position or not giving full effort.

This sort of game during the season is a good way to evaluate progress and try to tweak certain things in an actual game without significant risk of injury or a loss as well as a chance to try out and give some playing time to unproven players and future starters.

That's my take.

Preparing for a running quarterback. Milroe can pass, but he could kill this defense with his running
