What exactly is the reason for "Third and LSU"?

This isn't a negativity post, I'm genuinely curious.
The last few years (barring 2019), it seems that we simply cannot get off the damn field when it matters.
It's gotten to the point that every time the FSU QB dropped back on a third down, you just knew they were going to convert. UCLA as well. You can feel it in the air almost

Whoever schemed Perkins out of the game last week definitely read his book about the “drop linebacker.”

Which is funny considering while at Tennessee he had some of the greatest SEC defenses on of all time from around 97-02.

Actually put together some pretty good defenses here

Kinda funny how DCs go from GOAT to crap at warp speed on tRant

Because House is the Les Mile version of defensive coordinator. I know this will get downvoted but he's not that good of a defensive coordinator. He expects his guys to win their battle strait up with no wrinkles or disguising the call. We very rarely blitz and when we do it's telegraphed for the offense to pick it up. There are no d-line stunts, and they play the d-ends a lot to contain. Even when it's not working, he just keeps doing the same thing every play. Teams have figured this out and that's why we gave up a lot of points on first drives and teams converted 3rd downs. He's trying to play NFL defense with college players against college offenses.

Opposing teams never had to experience a third down with Tepper.

Longer than that. I wanna say the year before he came here UT had the #1 defense in the SEC despite the worst offense keeping them on the field.
That said, the "3rd and Chavis" thing originated at UT, though like you said he had some good-great defenses there.

He did and he had some great defenses here. But Tennessee people were warning us here on the Rant when we hired him that we’d get frustrated by “Third and Chavis.” That expression originated when he was at Tennessee, not after he came to LSU.

we haven’t had a pass rusher with double digit sacks since 2016.

He had great defenses at LSU to but third down was always his weakest area. 3rd and Chavis actually started at Tennessee.

I don’t know what it’s been in the past but I know what it was in the last game. The 3 man rush. When you give a good qb, at any level, the opportunity to sit back and just wait for a receiver to get open, they will deliver time and time again. When Brees was in New Orleans and Burrow at LSU there would inevitably be a dc who decided to use this strategy. And I knew, every time they did it, they were about to get torched. And they did. House needs to be corrected or fired at the end of the season. The 3 man rush didn’t work, doesn’t work and will never work. The only excuse to use it would be with seconds left and the opponent needing to go a long way for a score to win. Not in the heat of a close game when you have your opponent in 3rd and long.

It's never been third and LSU.
Insert defensive coordinator's name.
