What does PM blame for the 1-5 start? Luck.

His own words:

“I feel like this team is — we're a little snake bit. We're a pitch away or an at-bat away. If we can just get over that hump a little bit, then we can turn some of these close defeats into really good victories. We've just got to stay with it, but it's frustrating right now for the kids.”

In other words.. we're not good enough to makes the plays needed to win.

What do you expect him to say?

As far as Floyd giving up the run, he doesn’t blame pitch calling. He blames not walking him:

quote:

Floyd reached an 0-2 count against Gilbert. He needed one more strike to preserve the win. Then Floyd left a fastball high in the zone, and Gilbert roped a double down the right field line, sending the teams to extra innings.

“The cardinal rule of baseball is you don't walk the go-ahead run, but I really regret not doing it,” Mainieri said. “Sometimes, you've got to go against the book, especially when you're the visiting team. I feel like I made a bad decision there.”

He seriously thinks he should have gone with his gut. I wish I was making that up.

Paul might be in cognitive decline. He needs to get checked out for the sake of his health.

He’s lost the entire fan base. There isn’t anything he can say that can be construed positively. He will always be wrong. But he brought it on himself.

If you continuously blame luck as if things are not in your control then you succumb to mediocrity. Because... it’s not your fault.

I took it as the team needs to get over the hump and do the little things that it takes to win instead of letting the game get away.

They follow the lead of their coaches, who only ever seem to let the game get away.

I actually agree somewhat with what he said. We just lost two one run, extra inning games. Games we could have and probably should have won. We have talent, young but talented. Our ability to throw quality pitches in tight counts is killing us. Walks!

What if the coach doesn’t put them in the right position to make that happen?

The Tennessee-biased Color Commentator said the exact same thing today. It's true.
The last pitch in game two, the barely foul balls in game 3. That's just bad frickin luck.

Then it's on the coach for not winning. Either way it wouldn't be on luck, good or bad.
