first play a pass? are you kidding? first play will be a run, either off tackle or a qb keeper around the end. some people call this an option read, but i really haven't seen any reading going on.

perhaps a jailbreak screen or swing pass.
Please let me know when the last ran the jailbreak screen.

While I'm inclined to agree you, the defense would be totally thrown off by a pass and it would allow Miles and Crowton to see where Jefferson's head is early. I'll say swing pass at RS's toes.

Miles pulls a surprise and starts Lee instead of JJ. He throws a pass and it's intercepted and run back for a touchdown.
Just kidding!

Becasue the OP asked for the first play of the game not the first series.
But since there was a limited amount of negativity that you could convey with only one play, most in this thread felt the need to describe a first series that ended in misery with a punt.
You doom and gloom types all need some prozac.
To OP: I expect a inside run by Ridley for 3-4 yrds as the first play. Many teams with great offensive personel and a strong passing offense start games this way. It gives the QB immediate real time evaluation of the D, tests the defensive front, allows lineman to judge the man in front of them, and in general is a low risk play.

i think the better question is WHO will call the first play
Posted on 9/15/10 at 1:38 pm to slackster
Quick pass to Deangelo Peterson for a gain of 16.

Good evaluation. I still think we go to the air on the first play with something JJ has high confidence in. If he completes it, he will be fine and JL won't see the field until mop up time. If it is incomplete, ...

Option play to the short side of the field. It works everytime.

Believe me.... JJ could not be coming along any slower....

I know what I would like to see:
Russell Sheppard lines up in a "wildcat" type formation, gets the snap, fakes the run (which everyone assumes he's going to do) and hits Ruben Randle on a post route.
Then we can use that formation and have them worried about the pass as well as run and it'll free things up for Shep.

We have a strong passing offense?
BTW, I agree with the rest of your post.
