... playing in a bowl game that doesn't matter?

You go to college to prepare for a career. The preparation is done at that point. The regular season is over and the road to the championship is no longer there.

A kid from nothing has a chance to make more money in a couple years than most people will in a lifetime.

It is business at that point.

Thanks for letting your pride get in the way of making a smart financial decision, sorry you will be missing out on millions.

Couldn't you have posted this in one of the other 800 threads talking about this? Or is it that you have such new, groundbreaking, thoughts that it needed it's own thread?

Why should anyone play?

then why play ANY games at all? there is a risk of doing just what you described in any game during your career. Just leave HS, keep training, and walk on to your NFL team I guess huh? If you're good enough, you'll get your fat paycheck.

So.... it's time to simply do away with bowl games. In fact, once you are eliminated from the playoffs, your season ends. I guess that only leaves about 15 teams that even need to play college football.

What do you tell a kid who blows his knee out during any regular season game after his team has two losses? It's nearly impossible for his team to make the playoff at that point. So all games after that are pretty much meaningless exhibitions.

the same thing you would tell him if he does it in the first game. or 5th, or the championship.

Same thing you tell him if he gets injured in any other game. It's the kid's choice to play. Coaches cannot force them to play if they don't want to.

How do you think they get to the point of making millions? By playing games and proving they are as good as people think they are but at this point in the season there has been enough tape to know what you will get out of a player and a top draft pick will not gain any financial benefit from playing the bowl game.

1: The bowl game matters. Don’t give me that BS. It might not be what the players/coaching staff/fan base wanted, but it matters.

2: There are plenty of players that improve their draft stock because of bowl games.

3: I’m not telling them anything because I say let the player decide what he wants to do. I maintain the likelihood of an injury during bowl prep & the game is minimal, but I’m not going to get bent out of shape if a player decides to mail it in. They have to live with that decision.

Risk reward

Some people can help their draft stock in a big performance in a bowl.

What do you tell the really good kid (who has a chance at the NFL) on a really bad team that is 2-7 and has no chance of a bowl game.

Should he not play in the last 3 games which don't count?

100% agree with all of this. I hope they all play but will not in any way hold it against them if they choose not to do so. It's their life and their decision. They know the ramifications of playing versus not playing and they can make up their own mind based on what is best for themselves, and I hope that it does work out for the best regardless of the player's decision.

According to the Rant... all players declaring for the draft shouldn't play in meaningless non-championship bowl game.

Fournette sat out... got hurt his second year. Guice played... got hurt first game.

If your career goal is the NFL then you have an insurance policy...like the one Devin White took out last year.
If your career goal is to be an accountant it doesn't matter if you get injured.

What do you tell a kid that gets both legs blown off fighting for this great nation. Or the family of a dead soldier.

I am sick of these prima Donna athletes acting like they are the only people risking any damn thing!!
