How many strike outs did Slaughter have last year?
A lot.

How many did Chris Reid have when he was playing consistently as a freshman?
Not as many. Chris is the same player he was as a freshman. He got more garbage hits and worthless RBIs in games that were already decided than I'd ever seen. He has 56 hits in his career and 45 of them are singles. His fld% for his career is below 0.900. He's a plug and play kid. Not a starter we can rely on when we have people who can field it better and put it in play harder and with more regularity. The hits will come for Slaughter. They always do.

Won’t be long until he gets the Hanover defense.

At least he has a strong arm.

Slaughter has more upside than Reid.

We are hoping he can figure it out.

The problem is that we don't have a third guy with three reliable pitches. Vietmeier has looked sharp but that second time through the order batters aren't going to be as susceptible to his very good change up.

Beck looked awfully shaky this weekend. Maybe he will get an opportunity to prove himself against SELU this week.

Storz is a long way from coming back and Labas is taking longer than expected. Perhaps Labas could be ready once we get into SEC play.

Reid had an OBP of.417 as a freshman which is what most people remember and Slaughter's OBP has been weak since hes been at LSU and currently sitting at a whopping .120. He doesn't need to be in the field however wouldn't mind him getting a shot at DH when Bain whiffs himself out of the lineup when he starts seeing a heavy dose of breaking pitches

Great now we are hoping the kid slugging .611 tanks so Reid can gets his spot.

I've seen Chris get a PH AB at the end of a game we are losing and he's looking for a walk. Many of his Ks are looking.

I think people tend to forget that in recent LSU history, we have struggled to get three weekend starters. Last year was a gift.

I think assuming Gilbert figure it out (and I think he will) Sundays are going to be 3 innings of Beck, 3 innings of Vietmeier, and Sanders/Hillard in the later innings.

I don't think we are going to get any meaningful starting pitching out of Storz or Labas this year. Might get some relief innings if we are in, and maybe one of them (Labas I'm guessing) gives us a post-season surprise start and does great.

I would like to see PM give guys meaningful innings/distance during the midweeks... not this 9 guys pitch an inning crap.

Pretty crappy. That's why Coomes took over 1st for a while. And then he hit 0.250 in the NCAAT + CWS and won us a game in omaha with his bat.

His freshman year when he played in 55 games he batted .287 with a .417 OBP. His fld % was .909 with plenty more attempts. Yes he is slower than slaughter but the speed isn’t a huge advantage. Slaughter doesn’t have the “elite” speed (ex. Watson) that would make a difference. He also was one of the only 3 LSU freshman ever to have a Top 5 BA in SEC play. He’s shown that when he gets consistent ABs that he gets the job done. I don’t think that’s “struggling”.

Yeah, I didn't remember it being too good, but yes, the HR was big in the CWS. CR didn't have a bad year the yr before. I hope JS gets it right b/c we need 8-10 HRs out of him.

So we are happy with a 0.043 BA?

I have not said anything about Reid's footspeed. 0.909 is horrible even at 3B. And there's way more to that average than meets the eye. I remember the conversations I had with people in real time as Chris would get garbage hit after garbage hit in games that were already decided. I'll have to do some analysis on that season to prove this to y'all.

We had these same arguments last year when people were swearing up and down Chris would and SHOULD be the starter from day 1. Nice call there. Y'all really want to rehash those arguments?

I'll take a baserunner Means he's a patient hitter hints the high OBP. I'd much rather that than a fricking Vladimir Guererro at the plate swinging at the dirt and saturating it on the way back to the dugout
