My thoughts are
Friday- Hess
Saturday-Beck
Sunday- Gilbert (For now) We all know Gilbert has the capabilities he is just starting off slow

Also take slaughter out the line up and put Reid there. Once Smith comes back put Smith at 3rd and leave Hughes at short or vise versa

Hess
Gilbert
Beck

Keep Slaughter at 3B. He's not striking out and he's hitting lots of balls hard they just aren't finding grass. I'd rather him fight through this now while the competition is easy than to bench him and watch as Reid struggles to play baseball.

I dont recall Reid struggling in the field or at the plate. His only downfall is he is slow....Slaughter makes Bryce work at first base. (Granted a few of his short hops were some long throws)

Yes. He has the slowest bat speed on the team.

For now, I think Beck is fine with short doses.
When he got pulled Sat he had lost the zone after that stint.
He could potentially build up to be a starter but I would leave him in the pen for now.

I think Veitmeier will get a shot, could have used him against Texas

The key to the pitching staff will be getting Labas and Storz to contribute this year and it would be nice if Aaron Nola Jr would throw strikes.

With the current roster, you don't have a ton of options, you just have to hope the guys you are counting on can deliver and I think Hess and GIlbert will

I've seen Slaughter struggle to play baseball enough.

He only has 4 Ks. Slumps in baseball are real. Hard hit balls are outs and swinging bunts are hits. Broussard isn't a 0.500 hitter and Slaughter isn't a 0.043 hitter. He's our best defensive option at 3B while Smith is out. He needs to keep grinding at the plate. It's 7 games. We gave Trey Dawson more time than that.

Well Slaughter sucked last year too. So he has had plenty of time to prove himself. Chris Reid has been more consistent at the plate when he gets the opportunity. Don't care about his bat speed or other stat caster bs.

Yes. A freshman hitting 0.257 is just like a soph who can't hit 0.210 vs midweek opponents.

So you don't like facts that prove you wrong. Got it.

He had 24 at bats last year.

Batted .287 as a freshman.

I'll take a slower bat that puts the ball in play more and doesn't cry when he strikes out so many times.

Yep. With just 5 hits... all singles. I remember seeing him face Georgia's ace that threw 94 mph. I watched him swing twice when the ball already in the catcher's mitt.

He also had 4 groundballs hit his way. He booted two of them.

Chris had 7 Ks in those 24 ABs last year. Slaughter has only 4 Ks in his 23 ABs this year. Wrong again.

How many strike outs did Slaughter have last year? How many did Chris Reid have when he was playing consistently as a freshman? Just wondering. I didn’t look it up
