Can’t we use him effectively like in his first season? Is there no role for a speed rusher?

He needs to be on the edge 100% of the time

He is one of the most overrated players in college football. Is he a freak athlete? Maybe and that’s why he had so much success freshman year. Have the coaches put him in the best spot?? Maybe not but that dude simply doesn’t change the game for “how good he is”. Dude hasn’t done shite for 2 years.

The safety behind everyone on that play played it the worst. He completely ran away from the play and the RB ran straight ahead of where he should've been.

Poor effort but USC RB looks like he was a good yard and a half out in front of him.
This, and it’s possible he was expecting the RB to cut back to the left
It was a poor play on his part but I’m not ready to question his effort over one play. By all accounts he has emerged as a leader during camp

I saw a few plays where he just watched the ballcarrier go by without any effort to try to stop him. I'm disappointed in Perkins' effort so far. Makes me wonder if he is now just in it for the $$$$ and trying not to get injured.

Is this why Burns was so extraordinarily out of position on this play? It’s like he’s doing it on purpose.
I’d say maybe we we letting them score, but this seems to be par for the course with Burns and his productivity

but i think they were thinking let him score to give us a slim chance at something on offense.
No.
Had there been 25 or 30 seconds left, maybe. There were 8 seconds left.

He has done next to nothing since his freshman year.

I said this throughout last year. Has talent but plays soft, except for dynamic plays. Remember the honey badger? That dude blew everyone up that came close to him.

The problem with that play is the defensive alignment. He is way on the edge and Spears is lined up directly behind him. WTF
First of all, USC is trying to decoy them with extra players lined up left because they are not running to the short side of the field. If anything, QB will line up the ball between the hash marks for a straight FG or score due to the way LSU is lined up, plus the only safety went to the left covering a Ghost or something.

Let them score with 7 seconds left??
Much better chance of a missed or blocked field goal

If you want to watch something comical watch Greg Penn on the 1st USC TD run…that dudes still lost on the field after 2 full seasons..
