Feel like we have probably dodged a bullet, especially with firing all the coaches.

No bowl game was perfect for the moment. We finished the season with 2 wins, including one over #6 on the road. That's better than playing in some meaningless bowl game during a pretty much meaningless season. Follow that up with some much needed coaching changes and reeling in a few needed prospects in January, and we are set for Spring.

Based on the pecking order and because LSU had the best record (tied with Mizzou at 5-5) behind Bama, TAMU, Florida, UGA and Auburn, I believe the Outback Bowl would have selected LSU over Kentucky and Ole Miss as they have the next selection among the following bowls after the Citrus:
Other Bowl Games
Gasparilla Bowl: South Carolina vs. UAB, Dec. 26 (12 pm ET on ABC)
Music City Bowl: Missouri vs. Iowa, Dec. 30 (4 pm ET on ESPN)
Armed Forces Bowl: Mississippi State vs. Tulsa, Dec. 31 (12 pm ET on ESPN)
Liberty Bowl: Tennessee vs. West Virginia, Dec. 31 (4 p.m. ET on ESPN)
Texas Bowl: Arkansas vs. TCU, Dec. 31 (8 pm ET on ESPN)
Citrus Bowl: Auburn vs. Northwestern, Jan. 1 (1 pm ET on ABC)
Gator Bowl: Kentucky vs. N.C.. State, Jan. 2 (12 pm ET on ESPN)
Outback Bowl: Ole Miss vs. Indiana, Jan. 2 (12:30 pm ET on ABC)

This year the teams were able to choose which bowl they wanted from the pool based on pecking order.

Bottom line is it would have slowed coaching changes which needed to be done ASAP to get positions filled with the right candidates.
