And there’s your answer...

quote:

News: Ed Orgeron is about to tell his #LSU team that #OhioState transfer Joe Burrow is the starting QB. Burrow's experience & decision-making pushed ahead of Myles Brennan & his big arm, but Brennan will play & could redshirt if he doesn't play in more than 4 games.@SINow

As was expected, and barring injury to Burrow or Burrow struggling, the plan is for Brennan to play as backup QB and hopefully redshirt.

We’ll see what happens, and hopefully it plays out the way we want it to, because if Burrow has success and Brennan is able to RS, that would be tremendous.

You think Joe will be out there with 10 minutes left if LSU is up by 20+ points in the 4th quarter? Orgeron would get blasted.

Why not just play the 3rd string QB and get him 4 games

They will get him some experience early in the season and hope they don't need him after that. I would say about 60% chance of a red-shirt.

Not on the cards - he should get quality reps for sure against SELA and Tech and needs to be ready if something happens to Burrow... even if it’s just a ding that puts him out for a series.

That has to be Plan A. Give him meaningful snaps in meaningful games. Don’t waste it against SE, etc. we hope he isn’t “needed” in week 9 or 10, so leave so room just in case if the redshirt is the objective.
I think Burrow will be back for another year, so we deal with that then.

zero. Can't even think of a scenario.

I don't know about zero, but very small chance for sure. If you consider stuff like, helmet coming off, equipment issue, getting bell rung, getting an ankle tapped up, and so forth, it's likely Burrow will be forced to come out here and there. I doubt they would put the third string QB in to cover a down or two in a big game. So even if they trot the third string QB (actually 5th string two weeks ago) out for clean up duty, it's unlikely MB won't be called on at some point. If you play MB against weaker teams, early in the season to get him experience? Then I agree, zero chance of redshirt, and hard to think of a likely scenario.

I agree. I think that unless LSU is in some tight games then you will see Brennan in "garbage time." Again, if those opportunities arise. I just believe the coaches are going to think about now as opposed to saving someone for next year.

I find it interesting when some are continuing to question something that has already been answered.

According to Orgeron, LSU hopes to redshirt Brennan. Even if he hadn’t said that, it’s not complicated ... of course LSU hopes to redshirt Brennan. It doesn’t take a scientist to understand why. Some are way overthinking this.

Do you have a quote where Ed actually said this? Whatever you quoted at the top of this page wasn’t from Ed. I don’t think he’s ever actually said that’s the plan, but even if he did, I don’t think he can actually believe it.

Priority 1—win games in 2018
Priority 2–prepare Brennan for 2019 in case Burrow bolts

Priority 9999999—worry about Brennan having a 5th year in 2021. If Ed is still around in ‘21, then he’s got the program rolling and will have likely recruited a handful of guys better than Brennan.

I will bet you $1,000 that Brennan goes into next year as a Jr.
