He was hurt from constant migraines. And I'm not so sure he never got hurt returning kicks...

and bullshite arenas wasn't important. he was an all american moron.
He wasn't an all-american for being a corner idiot. He was at best a decent corner. He was helped out by some really good safeties and played well in Saban's sceheme...but there's a reason no one is considering him a top CB in this year's draft class.

his 5 interceptions and 70 tackles disagrees with you

40 times:
Patrick Peterson - 4.52
Russell Shepard - 4.40
(some listed him as sub 4.4)

PP returning kicks is hilarious. I know we put Chad Jones in last year, but only when the ball was close to the goal line and that's because Trindon had the fumblies a few games.
didn't read this whole thread, but after watching the freshmen highlights, I'd like to try Boone, Gore, or Fobbs at return men.
and I'm sure Ron Brooks will be one of our KR men. He never broke a big one, but still got decent returns.
I will miss the other team kicking the ball 15 yards to avoid Trindon though.

You realize a lot of tackles for a corner usually ISNT a good thing?
And like I already said, he got in a great system with some great backup for him. He is not considered a great corner by any stretch of the imagination. Not one place have I seen has him in the Top 5 corners for the draft. nfldraftcountdown.com has him as the #11 corner.

Look PP is a great athlete but give me RS returnig puts and its not even close

did PP even return punts in HS? Not a flame, just curious, as I wasn't sure.
He might be great athletically, but unless he's returned punts in HS, no one knows how shifty he really is.

I think this is all wishful thinking.
Prepare for Ron Brooks and Brandon Taylor or something.

I would love to see him returning punts and kicks.. however the risk of him getting hurt would make me choose otherwise considering he is without question now the best player on our D and could arguably be the best shut down Cover corner in the nation!
i would say trindon and RS should return em.

You do know trindon is not on the team anymore right?

What about Patrick Peterson as a kick/punt returner?
Why chance hurting our best defesive player when we have speedy returners that are hardly used right now...

It's coaching smart. Getting collided with full speed 5 times a game is always asking for injury. There's absolutely no reason to risk that with a shutdown corner who, if hurt, puts us in a serious hole at CB.
There have been players better than Peterson who were asked to return punts.

I'm fully for Shep returning kicks/punts. I wouldn't mind if PP was the other kick returner.
Posted on 2/12/10 at 9:06 pm to moneyg
Miles is going to put Ron Brooks back there to piss everyone off

tried to reiterate that point numerous times throughout this thread to no avail. apparently it's a terrible idea to have the most qualified returner in the game if he's also one of the best players on the team.

Totally agree w you lsufball19...The only reason not to have PP returning punts is if RS, or whoever, is just better (which he may or might not be, none of us have a clue) Any other reason (to avoid injury or vaginitis, whatever) is pure pussified american talk for you. Are we talking about football or not? 5 years ago this injury avoiding garbage would have been laughed at...its sad how 'safe' and gutless we are all becoming

I haven't seen a damn thing that makes me think PP would be a good return man.
on the 2 TD's he has scored he had a clear field in front of him once he had the ball.
He is the best player on Defense because he is a good tackler, a great cover man, and has long arms.
None of those attributes equate to a good return man.

Once again, would some of you be willing to suck up Peterson missing a game or two this year if he gets hurt returning punts/kicks? Would look pretty dumb IMO.
Like playing a QB when we already have the game in check and leading to starting a back up in the SEC Championship? Howd that workout?
