I dont think you can say recruiting with no OC.

So why did Alleva do it?

No...hence the mega melt. He coulda looked at some more candidates, and didn't. Thats why the binder is the joke of the off season. It won O the job and prevented Alleva from looking further.

There was no benefit giving O 8 games to audition, anybody would have won at least 6 of those games... Should have fired Miles after AL and then had a real coach search...no benefit of having an opening in Sept, November is when all the coach wheeling and dealing happens

The SRs on the team did a dance and threatened not to return if O wasn't hired. We fell for it.

Not a single one. The only positive was he would keep recruiting class together and he has failed miserably at that. He alienated pur best qb prospect in years.

Because he is a hack that refused to actually do his job and launch a coaching search once jimbo and herman said no. Orgeron wouldve said yes in a month, yet alleva in his infinite jest wanted to lock him up.

Lets be honest. LSU football will never reach the mountain top until this joke of an ad is gone. He has went cheap on the last basketball AND football hires.

You gotta lock that talent down before someone else swoops in and steals your ships.

If there was an extended search for the new HC after Herman landed at UT there would be a real chance that Aranda never signs his extension and would be in Austin as the DC for Herman. All of these hires are not done in a vacuum and hiring O is no exception. With uncertainty at the HC position, Herman would have a much stronger negotiating point with Aranda than with O at the helm.

So in a round about way, yes there is a benefit for moving on quick once Herman landed at UT.

Now the argument on if the benefits outweigh the costs I will leave up to others, but once Herman went to UT, LSU was on the clock if they wanted to keep Aranda.

THis is a thoughtful post, which is rare here.
However, if you are the AD, don't you secure your most valuable coach ( Aranda) long before you find yourself in this corner?

After all, Herman might not have won his last game.
This suggests to me Alleva may have never had anyone in mind but Da Coach O.
ANd maybe F. KIng never gave him the OK to pay the money to hire a serious candidate...
