The biggest question mark on defense other than linebacker is safety…getting that right will be key new starter in Jay Ward and hopefully Sage Ryan or maybe second year guy Jordan Toles can lock down the other safety spot but either way your relying on 2 new starters at the safety positions

I've been bringing this up everywhere I see the doubting and low ranks for LSU football going into 2021.

LBs are very talented but inexperienced. DL being as deep as it is with multiple breakout candidates reminds me of going into the 2011 season.

Secondary is uber talented, especially at corner. Safety has a chance to become a force during the season as well.

As long as they are schemed properly, we'll be alright.

I think people mistake depth for greatness. I agree we have more bodies and these bodies were highly recruited but let’s not set them up for failure because we think we have the 2007 DL.

DLine impact today isn’t what it was in 2010. The ball gets out so fast that the rush isn’t allowed to get there. That’s why Third and Chavis’ defense is actually built for this type of attack. LB play is the key and LSU has zero proven talent there. The rush game is flex pass like the Saints do. This is one reason why I don’t play into passing yard stats / records on the pro or college level. Most of the time it is just an extended run play that is now a pass.

If the Dline can hold their position and stop the run, then we are talking about something special.

The secondary better get on the same page quick and you better hope one of these freshman safeties can step in and make a difference. Flott, Ricks and Stingley are givens. Jay Ward will be there as well. Harris, Burns, Toles and Lewis should be solid enough with Laglois, Davis and Ryan there. Do not be surprised if Langlois is called first. He can flat out play football. I’m really hoping one of the safeties can step into a third LB Hybrid spot. TEs are going to kill this team.

That was a reply to sack totals. Not anything else

Was it the worst defense in LSU history? Again, I lay it 100% on 0 becoming a cocksman after the 2019 championship season. It does not bode well going forward. They need to be in the playoff discussion late into the year.

I'm hearing that Major Burns will be the second starter with Jay Ward to start the season.

But under a far better coach. Plus, the depth at the position is superb.

People believe the offensive line will be terrible. However, the offensive line in 2020 wasn't nearly as bad as a lot of people perceive. The problem was first Myles Brennan was very immobile and then later TJ Finley was also very immobile.

However, when Max Johnson started the final two games of the season, the offensive line appeared to be far better and not only did the running game perk up some, but so did the passing game too and even with the loss of LSU's two top receivers.

Meanwhile, the offensive line will be better than in 2020 because they now have depth breading down their necks. Hence, they either must play up to standards are they will inevitably be replaced.

That’s wrong “this” the DBs Sting & Eli are 2 of the best haven’t lost their ability or talent, when healthy are the best combo in the country. The problem was the communication and pelini’s D, his hands on approach or lack there of, the trust and relationships he had with the whole defense , not a healthy one from what I heard. This staff will simplify this and their relationship is already better. These coaches although less experienced, but you couldn’t have had more experience than Bo, a lot of good that did. I’m going out on a limb, not saying the D will be better surely that’s obvious, but to say also as above they’ll be a top 3 D in the SEC, which means one of the top Defenses in the country as well.

Can't get much worse than 2020. That was a Curly Hallman quality defense.

Would like to see us develop that kind of depth on the O line.
