It’s like every season people magically forget everything they know about baseball, specifically LSU baseball under mainieri. Webre will get his shot and early. The lineup we have in April will likely look a lot different than the one we trot out Friday and Webre very well may end up and every day guy if he’s worthy. This isn’t rocket science

Is Webre your family member or something?
Nah, it's just that the OP hates Mainieri with a passion.

He's been posting like his OP in this thread for years always questioning the competence and baseball knowledge of the LSU baseball coaches, especially Mainieri.

Some #LSU baseball scoop: Hunter Feduccia will not be ready for opening day, and the Tigers lineup without him may not look like you thought it would.

Bryce Jordan to catcher, Nick Webre to 1B.

“I’ve always been a guy who doesn’t hand things to kids,” Mainieri said. “They have to earn it. And I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror without putting Nick Webre in the lineup. He’s earned it.”

Just a update on Trey dawson for those interested. he will likely start SS on a VERY GOOD UK baseball team.
Quote from coach Mingione
Junior college transfer Trey Dawson will likely be the starter at shortstop in 2018. Dawson comes to UK from Chipola Junior College, where he led his team to a national championship. Dawson is a slick fielder with pop in his bat. He hit .276 last season with nine homers and 38 runs batted in.

"If the season started today, (Dawson) would be our shortstop," Mingione said. "He has earned it. He's as good a defender as I've coached. He came to us from Chipola Junior College, where they won a National Championship. He won the Gold Glove there."

That Chipola team last year led all colleges in draft picks. Dawson wasn't one of them. They were absolutely loaded though. Their 3rd basemen was committed to LSU but signed with the Twins instead.

Agreed and there is nothing wrong with it IMO.

He will err on the side of defense

Not always. He sometimes puts a catcher or somebody else at 1B who simply can't field the position at SEC level.

So you were wrong, geismargeauxer. You said he would not be in the lineup.

Yep. That is probably the best example. I wasn't going to name names because it is not the players' fault that they were put in a position that they were not physically capable of playing at a high level.

It was obvious to all that Kade couldn't handle it defensively at 1B. How about the power hitter that dropped a ball and cost us a game and Coach threw him under the bus after the game? The player's father wanted to kick Coach's arse. He ended up being a capable outfielder.

ETA: wasn't it Scivicque who was at 1B late in a game (2014 maybe?) due to pinch hitting or pinch running and Coach left him there for the 9th instead of moving him to C and putting the pinch hitter, who was a MUCH more capable defensive 1B, at 1B. The ball found Scivicque and it cost us the game. Everybody in my section saw it and was hollering, but Coach left him at 1B. He admitted after the game that he made a mistake--I'll give him that.

I don't remember. I'll see if I can find it in some old Box Scores. It may not have even been Scivicque, but somebody was at 1B that didn't belong there.

I think it may have been the Saturday UT game in 2014. There was not an error scored on the single through the right side in the top of the 8th, but I think that was the ball that 1B should have had. So many years ago....
