We need to replace our horrible coach and go back to South Bend and get a better one

No, not their head coach Marcus Freeman. We need to throw the bank at Brian Mason, their special teams coach.
Since getting rid of Brian Polian, in one season under Mason, Notre Dame has become the best special teams unit in the nation. They have blocked SEVEN punts this season and as a coach his unit has blocked 18 punts/kicks since 2020. For comparison, under Polian the Irish had blocked six kicks in five years. Now, blocked kicks isn't the end all for special teams, but their turnaround as a unit has been remarkable.
A quote from Mason in the article:
“We’ll kind of go through the analytical reports to see if there’s anything out of the ordinary. And then we always watch every blocked kick, punt and fake that we can. To then show our guys, either from a learning standpoint of blocking something or from a learning standpoint of how to defend a fake. We watch all those kinds of things.”
After seeing the abortion of the poorly coached special teams unit we have run out there each week, and then read a quote like this, it seems pretty obvious we can do a LOT better
Notre Dame's Brian Mason killing it in South Bend

Click bait article. You should consider working for the advocate

We need to move him to another role if we can figure that out because apparently he’s pretty invaluable in not just raw recruiting, but organization of the recruiting machine. Gets a lot of GM qualities from his dad.

It is deceptive, misleading, rather churlish and gets results. Just what I want from my special teams

The thread title is obviously misleading. What is misleading about the article?
Mason's units have blocked 18 punts/kicks in three years. Our unit is the worst in college football. Tell me what is misleading about that.

You can’t just go to South Bend and take a coach

What you did has been seen.

I bet the route is still pre-programmed in the Gulfstream's navigation system. Hell, if Woodward left anything in his hotel room, they still have it in lost and found.

Clickbait title to op too.

I'd like LSU to try to poach the guy from South Carolina. Pete Lembo, unfortunately, is also the AHC so not sure how that would work.

I didn't realize until today that Brian Polian was the AHC in 2021 at Notre Dame. I'm not sure if you can read something into this, but Kelly chose to give Frank Wilson that title this year at LSU, instead of Polian. It could be that Polian was better suited as Rec Coordinator, or it could be he didn't work out as AHC in his one year, or Kelly gave it Wilson as a condition of employment, who knows.

Thanks for telling me not to click. Appreciate it

I’m pretty sure LSU has only blocked 3 punts in the last 18 years and two of them have been by Micah Baskerville

You are welcome? But why would you not read the article? It is about a special teams coordinator that is getting results that is light years better than the one we have. Now the title of the original post was totally misleading. Guilty.

I think it has more to do with who Frank is in regard to his legacy at LSU. It was a smart move.

I want some of this and less of Polian. A change of some sort has to be made.
