Part of Max’s game has to adapt to moving the chains with his feet when it’s available. The OL will not be dominating the line of scrimmage so we have to get creative here.

Last year Max ran designed qb options but it’s been non existent this year with defensive ends crashing on our run plays.

Peetz knows this. It’s in year 3 of his binder.

I would be happy just to get the running backs involved in our running game.

Absolutely. I would love for him to roll out with a run/pass option more often.

we need to find a running game. Peetz needs to finds a few plays that work with our weak OL

We don’t have a viable backup yet. I’d guess that the QB runs will happen when we need them. They would not have done any good against UCLA because they were outnumbering us on blitzes, and since then we’ve been able to handle every team without it.

What running game?

Peet’s creativity in calling plays leaves something to be desired. I really despised running the ball on first down vs msst as much as we did. I understand establishing the run, but we could have done more short yardage quick hitting passes to setup the run on later downs rather than the other way around—which stunted many drives bc we didn’t pickup any yards running on first then msst knew we had to pass so brought pressure and pocket collapses. I will say the play action with TDP pass to boutte for TD was a nice call.

Not sure how much influence CEO is having on play calling, could be in a situation similar to Canada.

Well a wins a win. See if the team can keep improving.

What if the H.C. Is telling him we are not running the qb due to a true freshman back up?

Same with the protection first philosophy. If the H.C. Want the rb in to block, can the OC call a screen or flat to the rb.

The offense is being hampered by the HC much like Canada was.

No we don’t. If Max gets hurt, we lose the next 4-5 games in a row.

Gotta assume it's because of our lack of QB depth. Still think you can mix a few in here and there, even if you tell Max take what you can get and slide/run out of bounds etc. I do think that had a big impact on his success last year.

It's hard to tell how well our RBs can catch out the backfield as we've done it so infrequently, but perhaps that may be telling. Would be nice if we had a few calls where if the RB sees outside pressure, they could chip block the blitzer, then release to the vacated hole behind him.

It’s like he’s scared to run this year… I’m not even talking about the designed runs or even the read option pull that is literally open EVERY SINGLE TIME! But I’m talking about when he gets away from the pressure… many times where he can run for 5-10 yards and he decides to force a throw instead. I don’t understand

I said this all game and all season. A lot of people that had wanted Johnson over Brennan at QB is because he can run well. And they're not wrong. If he can run, why not run RPOs where he keeps the ball and run? That play is open to him all year long and they never ever do it. It's ridiculous.

I don't think that you know what this is. Rather than a retort filled with expletives, why don't you explain to us what you think an RPO is, because we ran it several times the other day? That's what Boutte scored his TD on.

I think that you are referring to the zone read, where the QB has the option to pull the ball when the backside end crashes down on zone.

Max definitely needs keep on the read option on occasion if only to keep the D honest.

You ain’t a man baw….

If we gonna game plan with deficiencies to protect our qb from a simple option where he can slide…then we have some toughness problems.
