Southern Miss had a great weekend but had lost their last three weekend series, two of which were against teams who will be sitting out the tournament. And their fielding has been atrocious all season. Pitching can be very good at times, though. Just depends on which Southern Miss team shows up this weekend, I guess.

We did not get an easy draw with our regional. Arizona State and USM could easily win the regional. Glad we are paired with Georgia and not Vandy, State, or arky bc Georgia is the weakest hitting team out of all those plus the least intense environment as well

Anything but a weak arse regional. ASU is a quality team and I believe they lead NCAA in HRs. USM just won their conference tourney and also threw a no hitter there, they are very capable of beating us. And we all know what Stoney Brook did last time they were here. Plus we don't have a good track record in weekday games, which two of these teams could very well be look at for us.

UGA might not get past Florida State

Georgia's pitching will likely see them through their regional, but if they fall, it will be to FAU.

GA has an easy regional.

LSU does not.

If you think this years stony brook team is comparable to the last stony brook team that was here then we all know that we can ignore any of your baseball posts.

Zona State hasn't won a series in months and southern miss had to win their conference tourney just to get in.

Our regional could be a lot worse then it is.

Yep (USM fan here).

Shepard is a true freshman and had TJ in HS so they've been working him back slowly. Struggled a little early on but has been dominant in his last 2 starts. He'll throw in the 93-96 range and even touched 98 at the tourney, per Rice's coach. Based on what our coach said on the radio today, it sounds like he'll start against Arizona State.

Our Friday guy, Powell, started Wednesday and threw 50+ pitches on Sunday, so it'd be tough for us to bring him back on Friday. If we play on Saturday, you'd likely see him. He's not elite in the strikeout category, but has been good enough to win ballgames. Threw 7+ scoreless innings against State back in Feb. (granted, there were some hard hit/loud outs). He'll throw in the 87-90 range. He's starting to get a bit of his velo back after having TJ in 2016, but he's still not a hard thrower.

Weak ? Arizona State is in LSU’s regional.

You right. They have 2 players who have almost as many home runs as our entire team. I expect them to put up a fight.

So did every Louisiana team LSU played.

FSU may never get to play Georgia. They are a terrible 2 seed.
