re: WE don't need to see a "vertical passing game"

How in the frick did LSU win 13 without vertical passing then?
Any passing is an improvement and believe it or not there was a little vertical passing. What the frick ever. LSU came out the fricking gate and scored a TD and the defense was legit as hell. Not sure how yall are bitching or concerned after game 1. Lots of top tier programs looked far worse.
Maybe you'll get your vertical passing this week against Washington. Oh how I wish LSU opened up against an over-rated Michigan. I truly do.. and I am not even one to call over-rated like the masses do these days.. but everyone would be slobbering LSU's dick right about now had they.

but I know full well that if we took more shots down field last night, and Mett would have gotten hurt
so we should work on our pass protection against south carolina or bama?
the whole point of playing a UNT is to realize we suck at an area and work on it within the actual game

What team in the country used their opening game against an FBS school to "practice" anyways?
every one?

But if LSU is highly effective and efficient against NT, people come out of the wood works to bitch
why would they?

Face it, the people bitching today would have found something to bitch about regardless of how the game went.
people are just worried that we're going to to back to the same ole LSU that is always fricking up and never playing at its peak. it's the les miles staple
we didn't look like OU or anything, but we didn't look good last night, overall. our offense was a lot like the 2010 offense, where we had huge outlier plays, a bunch of short rushing plays, and nothing else

I'm not saying we need to sling it all game but these are the type of games where you need to get Mett a lot of practice, build his confidence. Sooner or later we will run into a defense such as Alabama and USCe and we will need to be able to pass. You cannot be 1 demensional,

lots of luck and defensive/special teams plays that changed the game

We do need to practice the vertical pass in a game. Michigan looked slow and bad. We are faster than bama.

Did anyone watch the spring game? They can throw downfield.

and based on last night the screen game needs more work than the downfield passing game...maybe that's why they worked on it so much.

this is basically a preseason game
rushing for 500 yards with the same 5 rushing plays does nothing for our team
these are games where our team is supposed to work out kinks in the areas where we suck, like, the deep passing game
we're not going to win a title without an advanced passing game. when do you think we'll get game time to practice it?
Why don't people understand this. The offensive yardage numbers from last night don't mean shite. WR screens all night do nothing to help mett's in game experience.

We suck throwing the ball downfield. If you think that didn't hurt us against bama there is no hope for you. Most of us know we can beat everyone on are schedule with a vanilla offense but it will be harder for teams to defend us if we can attack them 10-15 yards downfield.
It's our weakness why shouldn't the fans want for it to improve. I am sure the coaches want it to get better.

Wrong! This game is to identify weak spots in the offense so we can work on them. We identified pass protection as a weak spot and it almost sent Mett. to the morgue. Yet you wanted us to keep doing that when Mett doesn't need any work on that part of his game. That is his freaking strong suit.
Probably would have done more verticle if Mettenburgers life wouldn't have been endangered. You can't TEACH much during a game. Not stuff like fixing pass protection assignments. And you certainly can't put Mett in a green jersey to do it last night either.

Everyone outside of LSU fans said they looked Exceptional.
LSU came out the gate and scored a TD opening possession and never looked back. The D was solid as hell outside of literally 1 busted play on 3rd and long and one actual sustained drive in the 2nd half. That was literally it.
LSU's run game actually looked better (which doesn't seem possibe) than even expected without even any Ware or much of Ford. Add in the fact it was Mettenbergers first start and he still threw for a high completion percentage. Yall can straight go frick yourselves with the doubt.
It's still LSU and Bama and then everyone else. But the slobbering over Bama after beating Michigan and lack of any praise of LSU from LSU fans is disturbing. You are a fricking fool if you don't know LSU does the very same in that game against Michigan.

Slow, that offense last night was effective and efficient. I agree there are some concerns, specifically stalling in the red zone, but overall, it was a solid performance given the circumstances. I guess I am just a tad bit happier than most of you because I choose to reserve judgement on the 2012 team until there is an actual trend with which I should concern myself.

This. Some of these fans are incredibly insane.
Washington can't get here fast enough. Mett looked sharp. Super crisp on the actual few throws that were up the field. Great arm.

Watching Mettenberger lead the LSU offense makes watching a game 10X more enjoyable. We can nitpick all we want, but I left last night with my blood pressure still intact. I haven't felt that way since 2007.

yeah we just destroyed them. going into the 2nd half they were down an insurmountable 17 points
SEVENTEEN!

You gotta admit, our backup punter had a badass recovery/kick.

Mett killed himself with that red zone pick last night,Miles might let him throw it 10 times a game for the next several weeks

threw 1 but it was pass interference...he should get plenty of work vs. Towson and Idaho

For the most part, NT was trying to keep everything in front of them in the passing game, hence the huge cushions and the copious amount of screens. Some of you fail to take the play calling in context with what the defense is actually doing. If there is anything to bitch about in the play calling, it is the lack of rushing plays. But, most of you would rather we force the ball downfield against what was, for the most part, a prevent defense from NT. I'll never understand this.
I am full confident that we will throw it well when we need too. And if we can't throw it well, we will avoid calling those plays. Hence 1/9.
