Do you think the university will sacrifice class for tradition (a tradition which was overtaken by perversion)?
Sad thing is it isn't even like its tradition. Tiger Rag was tradition and they've been yelling "Assholes" with it for decades.
STTDB is just stupid. Heck, "Neck" and this other song aren't even part of LSU tradition of more than the last 5 years or less.

do you realize "such that tiger d**k bitch" is the worst cheer in the world?
STTDB >>> Eat shite, frick you

The chant is lame but 15,000 students yelling and full of group think don't give a crap how lame you think it is. You just provide motivation and appear out of touch / sensitive.
I think the average student 17-23 is retarded. So my expectations are set rather low to begin with.

The chant is fricking retarded. Why blame the administration? It's not even remotely clever. It's more annoying than offensive, IMO

Ban whatever, the students will still chant it
PS - this was my first time not sitting in the student section, and it was loud and clear. I miss being a student, don't give a shite about what people think.

My first game as an alum is when I learned the actual end of the first down chant. For five years, I thought it was, "Kick their arse!" It turns out, as many know, it is, "L-S-U!" This made sense after I thought about it for a second. It never occurred odd to me that there was language in a cheer.
My now wife and I were confused when the old folks looked at us funny when we yelled the cheer as we knew it.

On gameday at UGA, they pipe in Baba O rielly by the WHO. Teenage wasteland. I find that very ironic as Athens is known to be very tough on underage drinking. It's all about perception.

Exact same thing happened to me

We should have absolutely no respect for the people making decisions for the Tiger Band that cave in so easily. That most of our gameday musical tradition is built off of Tiger Rag, and yet we never play it anymore because decision makers idiotically caved, is a shame.
while I agree with your notion that we should not respect the ones calling the shots for the band (i.e. Roy King) "back in the day" when the Ole Miss chants and the 'racist Rice chant' were prevalent, there weren't TV mics and cameras everywhere...so the lyrics of those chants couldn't blow back on the university on a national scale. now that everything is mic'd up...those chants can come back on the school, which is what the higher-ups for the band are considering.

people miss the craziness of tiger stadium... i can tell you STTDB is about all thats left of that legacy. i loved the taunting of florida with the chomp and "it sucks to be a florida gator" probably the most fun ive had in the student section since they banned neck after 2011
Posted on 10/14/13 at 12:52 am to Tigerdew
it's never going to stop, so banning is stupid

This might sound crazy but as a student, I think the best idea would be Les and the team actually telling the student to stop themselves. Sounds crazy but from my POV, this would have the best effect.
Students chanting "sttdb" would slowly become frowned upon by other students if they know Les & Co. do not like it.

this sounds just crazy enough to work.

I would rather hear F_ you OLE MISS straight out than that damned piped in rap stuff.

Now you are really getting somewhere. Much agreed.
(And this is coming from someone that likes the banned chants, but I would rather LSU not get shammed on TV - which I actually think has been greatly exaggerated, FWIW - and we would get back some great songs. I miss hearing them the most - profanity or not)

if Les and the team were to tell the students, "Hey, we want you to have a fun but this doesn't reflect well on our university" or something to that effect, I feel like it would work. I know it would for me.
I can't speak for all the student themselves but I think I can relate better than the guys here who aren't students. I'm guilty of being a STTD'er my freshman year. Right before sophomore year I realized how retarded it was. I like to think I know how a lot of my peers think, too.
The brah who we thought was cool for yelling "suck that tiger dick, bitch" would slowly become the brah who gets the slow head nod

At this point I think the students are just trying to make a point that they can ban whatever they want but they will still find new ways to incorporate whatever they want into songs still. I thought I heard STTDB a few times when there wasn't music playing at all yesterday. I do think its a bit hypocritical by the administration though to keep banning songs because the students make them vulgar but they then pipe in "bitch I'm from Louisiana" before kickoffs. And before someone says it's edited I think it's poorly edited because I can swear I heard at least an "itch" a few times in the loop.
