As a freshmen at ASU, he threw a beautiful deep ball and was generally more accurate . Yes competition is massively better in the SEC as opposed to the pac 12 but the confidence he displayed in his arm is zapped. At ASU he let it rip a ton but now He consistently passes up single coverage shots down the field for scrambles and when he does let it rip it’s absolutely inaccurate. No one expected him to come here and be joe burrow but with the talent we have at wr it’s embarrassing how little ability he has the get them the ball.

It’s called regression. Happens all the time at this level.

Changed OCs and then his confidence was ruined

What we’re seeing now is 100% mental.

Afraid to pull the trigger so he’s a little behind on all his passes.

That OC left (was pushed out?) after the season. He then had a different OC for the next two years and transferred here. Basically 4 years of playing and he's on his 3rd OC & qb coach.

Highlights are hard to judge. Game tape this yr really shows how terribly bad JD5 is.

He also had adequate pass blocking at ASU. Our o lineis a clear work in progress right now.

Never should have been placed into the position of playing QB at this level. Sub-standard is sub-standard, it's like asking a zebra to change its stripes...it can't . Daniels wouldn't have ever seen a snap at a Major D1 program, he's DB or WR material, not QB.

He’s really not as bad as people think. He’s an average quarterback. Combine an average QB with below average OL and below average OC, these are the results

He was a top 40 player coming out of high school. Some of you are literally clueless

He was an Athlete coming out of HS. Athlete doesn't always translate into successful D1 QB. Most times it doesn't. This is one of those times. Daniels has the stats/history to prove his ineptitude as a QB. Kelly seemingly ignored his past performances at Arizona State.

I remember watching him as a freshman throw 3 bombs for TDs in a barn-burner upset of #6 Oregon & thinking at the time that those passes were as good as I'd ever seen (especially in such a crucial game.)
It's really sad because that guy doesn't seem to exist anymore, so somebody must have destroyed his confidence since then.

There wasn’t much to measure against in the first place. You’re comparing pig shite to horse shite.

It's amazing the differences in a Pop Warner defense and real defenses played in the SEC. Tennessee has arguably one of the worst defenses in the SEC. and Tennessee made Daniels look completely inept.

I guess you knew all that before his freshmen year.

SEC speed is real.

He doesnt trust himself and his OC doesn't use his qualities well.

Everything around him is different. Might just had a lucky year as a FR but his next two years the team he was on was substantially less talented.
LSU is probably more talented even with Tigers being down but the competition is vastly better. Makes for tighter windows to complete passes, less pocket time, more big guys in your face and better DB to beat. Don't think he regressed personally just the circumstances changed drastically.

Ummm. Do you not recall Russe Shepard? Top 10 player and QB prospect and never played a snap at QB.

QB recruiting, particularly with dual-threat QBs, is a crap shoot. No one is suing the kid doesn’t have arm talent, but his decision-making as a passer is slow and awful at times.

Even when he has plenty of time, he is not throwing the ball.
