So there is a line to get to the upstairs bar? How soon before opening does it form?

Do waitresses come to the tables or do you have to go to the bar to get drinks?

Sorry to ask all these questions lmao. I just want to show my friends from BR/NO/Lafayette a good time so they will visit me more.

I'm homesick.

The line starts to form about 1/2 hour before the door to the upstairs opens (which is about anhour before kickoff). If you're at a table, you get waitress service.

If you are in NYC and want to watch the game - go to turtle bay. Packed with LSU fans.

bring earplugs (ask Butch)!

the other good thing about TB is that there is very little staff turnover...our usual crew sits in the same place and we get the same waitress who is a really nice girl....

if you don't like a lot of noise and a turned up sound system.....STAY AWAY....

The crowd depends on the opponent/time. The Auburn game was the first SEC game for a defending national champion at night, and it was the first decent opponent all season, so the line was long way before kickoff, and the tables were taken really early. This was the most crowded I've ever seen Turtle Bay.

I'd say for a big game, get there 1.5hr before kickoff, and you should be able to pick your spot.

And I always see this happen once a week at TB: Some former sorority girl is visiting NYC with her mom, and they come to Turtle Bay to watch the game. The service sucks for 15 minutes because of some emergency in the back. So the chick starts throwing a hissy fit, she wants her money back for the drink special, and then I tell her T.S., and then she threatens to start a new NYC alumni chapter and find another bar where LSU fans can get together, all the while causing bad publicity for Turtle Bay, which will be doomed to shut down the following day.

Basically, if you go to Turtle Bay, you'll have a lot of fun, but one or two things will go wrong because that's the natural order of things. Nobody gives a shite when you're complaining about something, so just deal with it and you'll have a lot more fun.

For us Tigers in the L.A. area, we've had the same two girls wait on us for the past 4-5 years and they won't let anyone else in there. I've heard the same from friends in other cities. Apparently we (LSU alums and fans) are the best tippers and easiest group to wait on. That's a very good reputation to have.

I went to Turtle Bay for the Arky game in '06 and it was one of the best times Ive ever had watching an LSU game on TV. The NYC chapter is awesome and they know how to make you feel at home.

Also, lots of hot tail was there. Just a bonus!

There are beautiful women in New York. Women like drama. LSU's 2007 season was full of drama.

I would just like to thank Les Miles for all the times he has gotten me laid.

I live downtown -- the folks at Barrow Street Ale house and Mr. Dennehy's always have the tigers games on. I is a less crowded experience as well

That's kind of funny. Seriously, I love our alumni chapter in New York and LSU Football, but I've pretty much stopped going to Turtle Bay. I'm too old to be crammed in that small of a space with that many people. Like you said, it's pretty manageable for the non conference or smaller unranked games, but I won't go anywhere near it for the larger ones.

I'm not saying we should start another alumni chapter in New York, but maybe we should try to arrange another location for people like me and the others who would prefer to sit and be comfortable, yet still be around other loud and crazy LSU fans.

My wife and I watched the Auburn game about 30 blocks north of Turtle Bay at a bar called Ship of Fools. You can reserve tables ahead of time and they will place you in separate 'zones' ensuring that you have sound for the game. We met another LSU couple there and we had a blast cheering the Tigers and talking a little smack with a few Auburn fans that were there.

It was a good place to watch the game and it was very comfortable being able to sit at a table the entire game.

If there are other NYC Tiger Fans that feel that same as I (like Turtle Bay, but don't like being crammed like sardines) come join us at Ship of Fools.

LINK

Call ahead and reserve a seat for LSU.

Why did it move away from Blondies. I liked the setup there with the long tables. Too many other teams' watching parties to compete with?

It's crammed, but the crazy thing is that Turtle Bay is pretty big. There's just that many of us here (and people from other fan bases love joining us because we know how to ).

If things continued the way they were, I could see maybe sponsoring two locations (maybe one way downtown or in Brooklyn), but venue loyalty goes a long way.

Look on the bright side--the big games will usually be on regular tv, and the other games are the ones of no crazy/big interest, so TB is bound to be more navigable.

I watched a lot of SEC basketball last year at SoF (with a bunch of Commodores). It's a good place.

Way more space at Turtle Bay, plus the Midtown location is some good real estate. I go to Blondie's here and there for Hornets games.

Turtle Bay may be big, but it's wasted space. The way the tables are configured (and those bulky chairs) take up way too much space. So many more people could fit comfortably in there.

I would like to be part of sponsoring an additional location (for the more civilized and mature LSU fans ) No seriously, I could see splitting up the venues for the Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and SEC Championship games (and the occasional big time OOC opponent). For all other games (Tulane, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Miss State, etc.), keep the normal Turtle Bay venue.

Man, talk about a miserable experience. (And not only because of the arse whipping we endured by Florida).

Nothing but a bunch of frat jerks. I was the 9th person in line and still could not get a table because each person in front of me already blocked 2-3 tables for themselves and friends. The wait times for drinks were ridiculous.

If anyone from Baton Rouge loves places like Fred's, and Triple A, then this is definitely to your liking. Frat Boys are definitely the majority of people there.

But if you are a Thirsty Tiger, Port Royal, or Northgate Tavern type of person then avoid this like the plague.

Also it is impossible to hear the game because there is an idiot in the corner cutting off the game sound to play the fight song every two seconds. Now I love the song more than anyone but is it seriously necessary after EVERY single play?

I agree with the several other people that said they wish another venue could be arranged. I will not be going back to Turtle Bay that is for sure.

Thank you for those that answered my questions though. It was greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I've been going for every game this season. The auburn game was damn near unbearable. I don't think I'll be going back. Maybe, but only if some friends are going.

Things that suck:

1. ridiculously crowded. Now I'm all for a bunch of tiger fans being there, but there's a point where it gets beyond dumb and it gets there pretty easily.

2. trying to get a table is pointless. Show up 1.5 before the game to get a seat to watch the game at a bar? And even if there are seats available, every single one of them is saved by a few for all their friends that are on the way. I asked and was denied. bullshite.

3. getting a drink is the worst. People get up to the bar and just stand there the entire game. There must be three to four rows of people in front of the bar and the first 1-2 do not move the entire game. It could take 20 min or more just standing and waiting to get to the bartender.

Overall, it's cool to hear the band played and fellow fans cheering, but the rest of the atmosphere just overweighs any pluses it has going for it.

I actually met a slew of people from Baton Rouge today thanks to a buddy of mine and they all hate that place. I seriously wish there was a plan b where we can sit, watch the game, and maybe even have a few tiger fans show up.

You are right about the saving of the tables. Like I said I was like the 9th person in line, and I could not get a table because everyone in front of me claimed a table for them and their 50 people that did not show up yet.

This one assclown actually was sitting by hisself and had 3 tables on lock. Seriously, F that place!!!.
