Was it by design when Hernandez sorta stole 2nd and then stopped halfway?

I know it’s common to steal 2nd to illicit the throw so guy can score from 3rd. But with 2 outs, was the play designed to have them throw to 2nd but Hernandez stop halfway so he’s far enough away from the tag to give Milam time to score, even if Hernandez is eventually tagged out?
Maybe stopping like that is common too… but it worked well obviously.

Yes it was designed and a brilliant call. Even if you get the runner the run will score first. But even better both runners ended up being safe.

Yes. They’ve done it several times this year.

Yes... we've ran that play multiple times this season to steal a run with 2 outs.
Luis getting to 2nd base was lagniappe

It was a very naughty throw for sure.

Yes- You are basically trying to trade a run for an out. Defenses plan for it too ,Pitcher cuts off the throw to second and throws the runner out at the plate. However, the catchers throw has to be “on line” .

Shortstop was caught sleeping twice last night that allowed LSU to take an extra base. He got pulled after the Hernandez play. He was the son of the coach too.

Attempted it several times. I can't remember it ever working though

They’ve done this play since the late 80’s when Skip Bertman was coach. Nothing new.

Yeah, that was a 1-9-12 level meltdown by DBU. Obviously not nearly as big of a game, but just in the fact that after a certain point, they couldn’t do anything right, not even the things they are really good at.

DBU was just the bad news bears last night. I don’t think it had anything to do with the coach. The moment was too big for them. We might see them again.
