I believe the point here is not what many think it is: The LSU football program, its coaches and the play of its team is not beyond criticism. The way we approach criticism of student / athletes, especially freshmen, requires some tact and respect.
That is, at least I hope, the point of Chicken's admonition.
Those of you who believe it is an endorsement of a Pollyanna approach to LSU athletics are wrong, IMO.

I think that Chicken's point is that posts should be more adult and responsible. He isn't saying that reasoned criticism isn't allowed. Calling players and coaches moronsand worse isn't constructive criticism. It is destructive peronal attacks against people that make huge time and energy committments to LSU athletics.

I agree 100%. I have been lurking on this board for years but never signed up or posted till recently because of the extreme negativity that is spewed on here and the outlandish personal attacks. I believe we all forget about the first part of the term "constructive criticism" at times. Just my two cents for what it's worth.

Chicken just needs to make the site breathalyzer-enabled.

If we could stop some of the drunkposting, we'd have a good message board.

Excuse me GreyTiger, but LSU (as an institution) and many posters here make serious financial commitments to LSU football. Miles makes millions a year. The commitmetnisnot unilateral and it is not charitable, last time I checked.
Performances like we had against UNC and Ole Miss and Moo State and La Tech etc. costs LSU millions of dollars. It's serious, big- boy stuff, whether you relize it or not. I can assure you Alleva knows it and uderstands there's a cost associated with underperformance.

How did it cost millions of dollars? How many exactly? What is your source?
LSU is one of the top name brands in college football.

"Of the top 10 money-makers, six are in the Southeastern Conference, which also has produced the previous three BCS champions on the field. Florida, Alabama and LSU have joined Texas and Ohio State in topping $100 million in total athletic department revenues"

This is a crock. LSU Football supports most all of the AD.
It's a ridiculous assumption to think you should have the right to smear players because you donated a few hundred bucks anyway.
So if for X-mas, you give a driver to Dad(like LSU, someone who molded you into who you are today), you think you have a right to tell him he sucks cuz he can't hit 300yds. WTF?
Do it because you love LSU, not because you want returns on your money.

While I don't have a link, I don't believe anyone with half a brain needs one to know that winning = $. After 2003 I was amazed at the number of folks I saw wearing LSU gear as I traveled around the country. In 30 years of being an LSU fan before 2003, I rarely ever saw anyone outside of Louisiana wearing the gear.

I believe the point is that in order to maintain the licensing revenues and the desire of networks to televise our games, we have to win......... at least the games we're supposed to.

Dont quite understand this thread and some of these post. Some of you tiger fans see the world through purple and gold glasses and fail to admit there are big problems. Yes Chiken it is game one. some misteps are to be expected. However the inability of a team and staff to take advantge of a 2 and 3rd string defense is unexcusable!. Not saying anything about the players is fine. As far as the coach is concerned should be another story. He is making BIG dollars for a highly publizied position. And guess what comes with that? Criticism. If this team and staff don't make a 180 degree turn around we are looking at 4 more loses this yr. Being a fan doesn't mean burying ones head in the ground.

Goddamn.

What does it take to get some folks to have just a LITTLE reading comprehension?

This is NOT, and has never been, a "pollyanna" board.

I am not a "pollyanna." I've seen things the last couple years (and going into year three) that have perturbed me.

And if the third year ends up being like the last two--then I seriously believe we need to make some changes.

But what in the hell good am I accomplishing by cluttering up this board starting umpteen threads saying "Miles sucks!" or similar drivel with no substance?

Chicken is not banning criticism of the team.

He IS cracking down on the idiotic, hundreds-of-posts-and-thread-starters --"Miles sucks", "Miles is retarded" etc. etc. ad nauseum.

And I say, thank goodness. It's about time.

Criticism--reasoned and intelligent--is always welcome here.

If you read what Chicken posted, he did not say you could not criticize Miles. He said to stop calling for the firing of a coach or coaches. I think the point is, what purpose does it serve to do that. Is the Administration going to read some of the crap on here and decide the Miles Haters are right and he needs to be fired before the season is over. I doubt it. They will do like most sane people will do and evaluate the season and the future of the staff when all of the results are in.

Other than being able to say you were right when (and if) it happens, what does calling for people to be fired now actually do?

Sort of sums it all up doesn't it? Is that like cargo ship or cruise ship or space ship? But wait there is icing on the cake:
