So now it is severe?
Would PM make a comment about Walker's arm soreness post simulated game if it wasn't unusual soreness?

If LSU wins game 1 and 2, game 3 would be on a Friday and I would just about guarantee Lange would start that game just like in 09 with Ranaudo. Lange would then be available for game 3 of the championship series just like Ranaudo was. Walker would get the ball game 1 and Poche would get it in game 2 of the championship series.
No doubt in my mind that's how it will go if LSU does what they are supposed to do.

This is a different situation when you had Ranaudo, Coleman and then a drop off to Ross.
This time, there is no significant Ross drop off. If we get to 2-0 without using Poche out of the pen, he's going to use Poche in game 3. Lange will go next in the elimination if we lose, game 1 of championship series if we win.

If it was truly severe, I don't think he make a casual mention of it.

Would PM report a thumb injury to get who he wants in the lineup?

And don't forget, there were some issues with rain that week to the point where LSU had a full 3 days rest between the two games with Arkansas.

If you go by recent results, one could argue that Poche has not been very sharp lately and Walker has been the better pitcher.
If Poche were to start game 3 and lose, it really puts LSU in a hole come the championship series. You will have started Lange on Saturday and then run him back out there on 3 days rest come Wednesday. I just think it's an unnecessary risk all the way around. Lange can start Friday and safely comeback and start the game 3 Wednesday.

Not much difference between 4 days rest if you pitch him on Friday.

Is it really a risk to pitch Poche in game 3, though (assuming you're 2-0)?
At the very least, I think the reward greatly outweighs the risk if you go 3-0 with Lange/Walker/Poche and then have a fully-rested Lange pitch first game of the championship series.

At least we don't have to trot Reynolds out there.

I'll be curious to see what happens. Obviously it's all speculation and hinges on LSU winning game 1 and 2.

If you go 3-0 Lange/Walker/Poche'...
So you think Walker is a lock for game 2 despite his arm soreness from Tuesday's simulated game he pitched?
I hope you are right as I want Walker to pitch game 2 also.

Mainieri: If Eric Walker's bullpen goes well tomorrow, he'll start game 2...Poche' to the bullpen in that case
This was a necessary decision, IMO. You can't ignore the differences in effectiveness, control, and frankly the ability to handle the pressure between the two.

big mistake... going to wreck Poche's mentality IMO
wrecking his mentality is less important than throwing the guy that gives you the best chance of winning. This should be obvious.
Personally, I think Poche will have the same effectiveness either way.

i mean if were gonna win this thing chances are both walker and poche are gonna have to beat osu so whats the difference in what order they go in

Yeah, but they also strike out a ton. As a team, LSU has 380 strike outs, while FSU has 503.
They have somewhat strange offensive numbers: batting average and slugging percentage are on the low side, but they score and drive in a lot of runs. High on base percentage and walk numbers, but they swing away and miss.
That is very strange. What do they do? Work every single AB to two strikes? Low BA, but high walks and high strikeouts?

Because if you win the first game, winning the second game is the difference between needing 1 win in 2 tries to advance to the championship series or needing 3 wins in 3 tries to advance.
Whoever you feel more confident in, that's who you pitch after Lange.

Never any guarantees but I like the Walker potential match-up with Beavers much better than Poche.
Will it work out? Nobody knows...but I think it's the right move unless Walker is too sore.
LSU's fate this year in Omaha will come down to how many base on balls LSU's pitching allows.

Game 2 is on Monday. He was sore after pitching on Tuesday...I don't understand why some of you are worried about soreness after 6 days of rest. Am I missing something?

Assuming they follow our lead (best pitcher first game)I like us against the Beavs regardless of who pitches.
If that happens we'll be facing Fehmel.
For all the talk of their ridiculous team ERA this guy is the 3rd worse pitcher on their staff by era(3.80)
He also gives up significantly more home runs than any of their other pitchers.
If they pitch him in the first game and OSU and LSU both win, then I think Walker is the better call. Thompson is very formidable.
Their team is still fantastic but losing Heimlich is an enormous blow.
I really like our chances to make the finals if we can get by FSU.
