Wade: As long as I'm the coach here, we're never going to be small at the 3 again.

Said Darius Days has been doing extra conditioning during the break and will play even more 3 going forward.

"If we've got him and Marlon rotating at the 3, that's a really good rotation."

Wade on coaching assignments:

Scout coach does matchups
One watches offense
One watches defense

Wade: "The game is my time. They're assistants for a reason. They're much more valuable in practice."

Most important thing is scout coach getting assignments right.

Days at the 3 is intriguing. We can be huge with him out there.

I'm worried about his defense from the 3 spot though. But days has proven he can knock down 3s and rebound.

His comments on Alabama:

"Wade: "(Alabama) was the toughest team for us in league play. ... We could have played them 10 times last year and we wouldn't hav e won once. I don't like saying that but it's true.""

Wade: "(Alabama) was the toughest team for us in league play

This sounds good:
"Wade: Our three best games have been our last three games. We've grown. What's helped is we've settled into a rotation. Playing eight guys has helped us."

A big part of that is Edwards now basically done for the year sounds like too.

Waters, Mays and Smart will basically do what most thought pre-season and pretty much take all the minutes at the 1-2 spots now. Keep guys like Taylor and Days at the 3.

Aundre Hyatt is a guy next year they expect can contribute at the 2 and especially the 3. He's redshirting to heal up from an injury sustained in high school. 6'5 225 and loves to shoot 3's.

Injury that will likely require surgery. He's been trying to play through it but hasn't been pretty

I agree. I hate to say it because he’s a Senior and played solid last year, but he has KILLED us this year and has taken away from the growth of others.

They just played a week ago.

Wade said yesterday they intentionally left a huge gap of time between the end of non-conf. and start of conf. play b/c of the youth of the team. Wanted to take the time to re-focus and get a good mix of practice and rest in before starting SEC grind. Pretty smart actually.

I like what Days has brought, I think he brings energy when he's in there and boards well for his size.

The rub is the book on him coming in was that he was a good perimeter shooter, and that was his strength, but that has not been the case to this point in the season.

If he begins to show that in SEC play that would be good thing because perimeter shooting has definitely been one of the bigger disappointments to this point for this team.

I am not sure how extra conditioning is going to prepare Days to guard smaller and much quicker guys at the 3. It seems this will just cause more open lanes into the paint for the opposition.

I think we can mix and match there with he and Taylor if it's a defensive matchup issue. Same thing with KBW, some teams are better matchups for him to get more PT than others.

He never said that was the purpose of the extra conditioning. The purpose is because Days is going to see an increase in minutes in SEC play; so he needs to be able to handle that.

And the SEC isn’t loaded with a bunch of smaller, quicker players at the 3. That was Wade’s point. Last year it hurt LSU b/c the SEC generally has bigger players at the 3 and we did not have anyone to match up well there. Now he is saying we will never be small at the 3 again and that Days and Taylor are both good to guard that position.

If an opponent happens to have a smaller, quicker 3, then you will likely see him play more of the 3 guard rotations and use Smart or Mays to guard it.

I think moving fwd, we start to see more of what many thought we would to start the season:
Waters, Mays, Smart rotating the 1 & 2
Days and Taylor rotating the 3 primarily
Reid, Williams, KBW rotating the 4 & 5 (although KBW is obviously exclusively a 5)
