I don't know if I read it as win the SEC in 2010 or else.

But, it definitely says, I, Joe Alleva, former collegiate QB, hear you the fans, and am watching with a keen eye, this staff's leadership and program development, and there must be improvement in the next few years, or else.

What is the bar set at? Is there wiggle room if not met? What are it's time frames? Etc..

On the other hand, being "nice" is not our annual goal. We intend to contend for - and win - championships at LSU.

Best part of the letter, IMO.

The fact that Alleva feels the need to give Les a vote of confindence is an admission that all is not well.

Why else would one be neccassary?

The dreaded Vote of Confidence!! Jim Mora got one just before he was fired!

quote:

Mora was fired last Friday after one season as Seattle's coach, a surprising turn after Leiweke had given Mora a vote of confidence in early December when general manager Tim Ruskell resigned and following a season where Seattle struggled with personnel deficiencies and injuries.

The writing is on the wall. Miles better produce and produce fast. Yes, he probably sent it out to get the fans off his back, but I dont see Miles making it next year with the same results.

And so the end officially begins...

Anyone want to bet that LSU will be Ole Leslie's last big-time gig?

Not unless we have a losing season.

This tells me that anything less than 10 wins next year and Miles is gone.

It tells me that he's tired of reading e-mails from pissed off fans and wants everybody to chill the frick out. It's lip service is all it is.

If that were the case, he would have said nothing. Alleva made a public statement that talked about not being satisfied with "nice" seasons. That is not lip service.

Most fans don't know how close Ole Leslie came to walking the plank after the 2009 regular season.

But they weren't worth a squat when they had to get a stop in the Penn St. or Ole Miss games. The 13 points they gave up to Florida was the most deceiving I've ever seen. Florida ran up and down the field on them, thus they only punted once, had 1 TO, and were basically on the field the entire game.

Chavis' bend-but-don't-break style is not what we're used to at LSU, but the defense gave the offense a shot to win every game.

Chavis' defense can stay on the field a lot, but that probably wouldn't be such an issue if the offense was able to sustain drives.

I'm encouraged by this letter. Leaves us little doubt that it's this season or bust for Miles.

It's disheartening to hear that the amount of negative emails necessary to spur a response of any kind is "more that expected" instead of "any".

Sure, every year people are going to be pissed about something, but a 14-yr old mallrat chick can point out the glaring issues our team had this year. The AD shouldn't just write off all of the fans as raving lunatics with inordinate amounts of passion.

Those are the people that pay all of their multi-million $ salaries...whether they like it or not.

It takes way too much time to attempt to respond to every person's email as they come in droves. Dude, the AD position is a job and not an email response service. If fans need to feel appreciated for being negative, cursing, and making sarcastic jokes, then go to Dandy Don. These guys have real work to do. The AD's concerns span beyond football and include NCAA inquiries, compliance, as well as dealing with coaches and construction concerning sports activities.

But also didn't address how to be more satisfied in the future. I'm glad that he's aware that we aren't satisfied by the 112th offense in the nation but it seems like he's saying that we're going to do the same thing next year only try to suck less. He's "confident" that the necessary changes will be made? Seems like by now he should KNOW that those changes are going to be made and he should know what they are.

And we still don't.

At least I hope he's learned his lesson about buyout clauses.

Why are so many calling this a "vote of confidence"? If it wasn't in the title of this thread, I'd not have read that email as a vote of confidence. He basically calls Les out twice ("LSU had a nice season in 2009 with nine wins and a New Year's Day bowl game. On the other hand, being "nice" is not our annual goal.") and ("This season, our offense floundered as it slipped to a No. 112 ranking in the nation - a statistic certainly not indicative of a championship-caliber team")

I read it the other way around - a letter about low tolerance for a 9 win season without a quality win.

Good letter. I like his frankness. However, he keeps harping on basically what happend more than two years ago, and in this business, the only thing that matters is, what have you done for me lately.

Les said his focus will be primarily the running game which is where it should be. That is the glaring area of need on offense. A team won a NC with 58 yards passing. He's on the right track, but with unproven RBs and still no FB he's going to need the players to step up as well as the offensive line to gel and begin moving defenders off the ball. It became apparent to me the reason we did not run much is because they knew we did not have a good fullback and apparently there was an issue with Scott filling the position effectively, because he hardly did so. They will likely spend a great deal of time trying to develop the fullback position because it is key to what they want to do in the running game.
