Penn st. does have an awsome logo, even though im not a fan of them.
That being said I like the tiger head on the helmet. It just seems more traditional.

Frick Toonces... LSU is missing out on lots of revenue b/c of that shiity logo. I have returned gifts that were given to me with the Toonces logo. My preferences are:
1. The eye
2. Old LSU font
3. Tiger on side of helmet

The first is a fairly nice update on the Cincy Begals logo...but it adds too many extra lines and colors differences to make it easiliy transferable from one format to the next. But it does a nice job of giving the viewer a look at a Tiger whose ears are matted down and angry...much like LSU's traditional circular head logo.
The second was one I simply altered in color back when the shitty "new" logo came out.
Regardless, the first is 1000X times the design that Phoenix rehashed and sold to the gimps in the AD.

You know.... The more I think about it, the angrier I get in regards to the lack of effort put into "updating" the logo.
Now - I know the colors/contrast are still rough (my strengths lie in photomanipulation, not vector art)... but I'm in no way trying to suggest anything by this other than it only took about 20 minutes and $0.00...
... but it seems to me a logo close to the traditional could easily be made from an actual image of Mike.

Toonces is terrible. I like tradition, but I think if we had a modern logo with a hint of tradition it would be awesome. I love the intertwined letters on the baseball hats. I also love the eye. If we had an updated version of the head on our helmet I think it could bridge the gap.
I just want to be rid of that dumb lookin tiger. Jeez.

I don;t think there is any type of contract in terms of HAVING to continue useage. I think it's more along the lines of, "Well shite...we bought it, now what?"
LSU clearly got the message early on when the first renition hit with the weird hurricane swirl in the background and fans had a hugely negative reaction. It's why we've seen the logo morph into just the head (still cross-eyed) and Geaux Font LSU. Yes...that's BETTER, but it's still the half assed result of a bad original design.
My guess is we're stuck with that tiger head for the forseeable future. It's only 7 years old...they won't be scrapping it and starting over simply because a large portion of fans on LSU message boards hate it. The saving grace is that at least they have not encorporated that logo onto the football uniform in anyway.
As for "that logo wins..." Eh. That logo happened to be around when the program took off. in fact, it's one of the things I've hated THE MOST about the stupid logo. That right at the same time that LSU emerged as a monster in the SEC and nationally, we decided to go out and hire a firm to design for us a junior high school logo as our visual identity! Ugh...
