will we need slacks or will jeans work most places?
Canlis (jacket required), Rovers, Il Terrzzo Carmines, and maybe The Met and El Guacho you might want to dress up a bit... otherwise, jeans are welcomed most places and you can wear what you like.

There's no such thing as too much dressing down in Seattle. LOL!
'Smart casual' is the proper way at most nice places here; can omit the sport coat but still look nice. Please let's represent LA and LSU proudly! Pretend you're in Omaha for crying out loud. Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!

Fair enough. I brought slacks and khakis to Portland, but felt like I was overdressed even in some of the nicer restaurants. Plus we are shooting for dinner out on the deck/patio as much as possible to enjoy the sunsets, so think jeans will be OK there?

The only local who has asked me about the game in the past week is the Gator that lives 2 doors down. UW fans are lame.

"I live in Louisiana."
"You coming up for a long or short trip?"
"Coming in Thursday night to watch LSU play the Huskies on Saturday."
"Play what?"
"Football"
"Oh, that sounds wonderful, hope to see you on Sunday."

i didn't go through all the pages and responses, so if this was addressed i apologize, but i can tell you that as a canadian who lives in SF, i fly to seattle all the time and rent a car to drive to vancouver (way cheaper than flying to vancouver for some reason).
whomever thought a rental car can't go into BC, check the fine print because almost every rental car in the state of washington is approved to drive into BC, thus you can make the 2 hour drive to vancouver if you want to.

Meek - thanks and noted. I actually think my wife took a rental car up there one time.

From a Husky fan who cares.
Jersey Tiger: You must be in the wrong part of town to not find any Dawg fans to banter with. Get your arse over to Wallingford and we can talk smack over a few beers.
While most of this thread is very well informed (tip of the cap to JT for the thorough run-down of Seattle attractions) I also wanted to add my two cents on a few things.
First off in regards to our fandom. Are we as crazy about football as all you southerners? Hell nah! You freaks take it to another level down there! (and that's a compliment). But do we take football seriously up here? Absolutely!!!
You guys need to put our recent experience in perspective. We are a proud program that has had it's internal organs ripped out and fed to the sharks, in front of our eyes. We just went 0-12 last year. Let that sink in for a second. 0-12. Imagine if that was the Tigers last year? You'd want to stick needles in your eye if that happened. So, to even sell out our stadium (which will happen) i think is a minor triumph in of itself and a showcase of our loyalty and fandom.
And don't forget, the school is IN the city. So, this isn't the only form of entertainment around like some of you guys have down south. With that being said, Husky Stadium will be ROCKIN'! And there will be trash-talkin! Again, is this gonna be LSU v. UF trash talk? Probably not. But after reading this entire thread I felt like you guys made Husky fans out to be some soft, pasty losers who would rather be sippin' on wine and cheese than watch football. That is not the case (for the most part!). We are all just mourning the death of our program. But the new regime will bring us back!!! So, to JerseyTiger... LSU is goin' down BABY!!!!! hahaha.
I also wanted to mention some places in Seattle I think are worth goin to. I love it when first-timers come to Seattle; it is such a great city.
For the best burger you might ever have again in your life (accompanied with one of the best milkshakes to go along with it) go to Lunchbox Laboratory in Ballard. It's gonna set you back about $16 dollars for burger, side, and milkshake but it is SO worth it. You wont need to eat for another 8 hours.
Paseo in Fremont. Awesome Cuban sandwiches and the best pulled pork in the city. A local favorite, expect long lines and it's cash only. Closed on Sundays and Mondays.
I noticed a bunch of people asking about the bar scene close to the stadium. I would recommend The Duchess. About a 15 min. walk north of the stadium, a big Husky fan place to go. The Ram also works as well.
For the youngin's lookin to hit the Seattle bar scene...
Belltown- mid to late 20's scene. It's young professionals with disposable income trying to look all hot and bothered. Definite meat market. Twist, Amber, Frontier Room, Del Rey are the hotspots.
Fremont- early to mid 20's. Most popular for recent grads and kids still in school. A little more casual than Belltown but still can be a little meat-market'y. Ballroom, The Red Door, and Norm's are good spots.
Probably my favorite bar in Seattle is Peso's in Queen Anne. Just slightly north of Belltown, Queen Anne has a decent bar scene as well.
Capitol Hill- Tons of good bars as well. Huge hipster/eccentric scene and pretty heavy homosexual population. Not saying good or bad, but that is the scene for the most part.
Definitely walk the campus. It is beautiful.
A fun thing to do would be to rent bikes anywhere in the University District and take the burke-gilman trail (a flat-paved bike trail) to the Red Hook brewery in Woodinville. It's about a 2 hour ride one way but super, super fun. The trail goes along lake washington and offers great views of houses along the lake. Just did it 2 weeks ago and was tons of fun. here's a link for more info.

I rented from recycled cycles. $20 bucks for half day $40 for full day.
Okay, that's about it. Im tired now. haha. Bring the heat Tigers!!
Geaux Dawgs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! woof woof.
Bow Down to Washington. We're back baby.

Just wait till you get to the stadium baby!!! You can't expect the wineries to want to talk football.

Thanks for all the good info. It's already been added to the sheet!

My office of 40 people has 30 UW grads and ONE Wazzu guy. He tries to stir shite up all the time and even he can't really get it going. There is some serious tail-between-the-legs syndrome going on with Husky football. Would love to grab beers, though.
Posted on 8/27/09 at 3:14 pm to Tiger JJ
Are any of you guys tailgating? Im going up there by myself and would love to at least get to hang out with SOME fun Tigers fans?? Ill be on my best behavior...I promise!

im sorry to here that. Ya, it significantly hampers one's trash-talking ability when you don't win a single game. Thanks Tyrone.
Are they season ticket holders or just grads? Cause my roommate freshman year (a uw grad) laughed in my face when I asked him if he had bought student tickets yet. Now if season ticket holders are rolling over then I want their tickets revoked.
Wow. I totally forgot about the Emmert/Woodward LSU connection. This game has more on the line than I thought.
FYI- any LSU fans that come into the Old Spaghetti Factory (where I work) better get ready to talk the talk. hahaha
ahhhhhhh i cant wait....

I lived on Mercer Island for a year and we used to go there quite a bit. I probably still have some pennies that we would place on the railroad tracks somewhere buried away.
Planning on taking my girls there Friday night.

One more thing.
The marching band and cheerleaders walk through the school and greek system on friday night to do some chants and songs and what not. If you stand in the greek system around 9 o' clock you will see them marching through the streets with police escorts. It always brings a good crowd of students out. If you want some folks to talk shite to, that would be a good place to go.

Does anyone have a recomendation for a bar/restaurant that we could watch games on Saturday and eat a decent meal?
We are staying downtown and want to watch the OSU vs UGA game before making our way to campus.
Sorry if this has already been answered but I did not have time to read the entire thread.

i used to live near UW (N 44th & Corliss in Wallingford) and i'd always eat lunch and tip some jars at the sports pubs on University Avenue and then walk through campus to the game. You can watch every game at a couple of my favorites. Earl's for mostly the cheap beer, but the atmosphere is all college football. a block and a half down the Ave is Finn MacCool's irish pub. they have sports on and i like their burgers. just make sure you start your walk to the game with at least 45 minutes before kick off so you can get to your seat and take in the atmosphere without being in a rush.
