6 minute video - mostly QB's

Talked about true freshman Livingston looking good.
quote:

Chase, Vincent, Chaission, and Tracy among those Ed O thought stood out on day one

quote:

The quarterbacks started off with simple handoffs to the running backs before going into a drill where they threw to the other quarterbacks. Offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger didn't like what he saw with that right away and called for the walk-on wide receivers to catch passes.

Towards the end of the viewing period open to the media, the quarterbacks started throwing to the scholarship wide receivers and Burrow threw a pretty deep ball to hit Drake Davis in stride.

The next three quarterbacks did not complete their deep throws.

quote:

Running backs Nick Brossette and Clyde Edwards-Helaire were the first two to receive carries. Chris Curry, Tae Provens and Lanard Fournette followed.

quote:

All of the wide receivers were present working with passing game coordinator Jerry Sullivan. Sullivan lauded Derrick Dillon and wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph praised Dee Anderson while the group was working on footwork drills for coming out of a route. When Sullivan didn't like a particular route, he told a wide out that it looked like throw-up. "(That route) started here, and just goes everywhere."

quote:

The outside linebackers worked with the defensive line with Orgeron. Ferriday alums Dantrieze Scott and Dare Rosenthal looked the part but Scott needed to redo a couple of drills.

Orgeron: Joe looked good. Practiced with the fourth team. Justin made some plays with his feet. Lowell threw the ball better. Myles had his best day since we started the competition.

QBs worked with the following units today:

1st - McMillan
2nd- Brennan
3rd- Narcisse
4th- Burrow

Steve Ensminger will switch up the order every day so guys get equal reps, O says

Ed Orgeron keeps bringing up 5-star JaMarr Chase. He said Jerry Sullivan really likes him. He scored on a long TD.

There's little doubt Chase is going to play a lot as a true freshman.

Ed Orgeron: “Good first day.”

Says Cole Tracy was 5-for-5 today kicking field goals with a long of 42. Top guy who stood out to him

Cameron Wire practiced today after lobbying Jack Marucci, O says.

Ed isn’t sure how much he’ll be able to do once the team puts on pads, but him participating at all was a pleasant surprise

From the article in the link:

quote:

Heading into 2018, tight end Foster Moreau has the most starts of any player on the offensive side of the ball with 19, while White and Williams lead the defense with 13 starts each. Others players with double-figure starts to their credit include senior offensive tackle Garrett Brumfield (13), senior safety John Battle (12), junior defensive end Rashard Lawrence (10) and sophomore safety Grant Delpit (10).

2 Major Takeaways from the 1st practice.

I’ve said this a few times already, but having a good kicker can be a real weapon.
quote:

O said Livingston looked really good.

There is always a surprise freshman contributor every year and Livingston would be very welcoming into a NG position that you can never have enough depth at.

O trying to make this look like a legit competition. He'll just gradually move him toward first team more of the time to make everyone think this was just how it played out.

I agree 100%. I think we beat ND with a competent kicker last season. Hopefully Livingston continues to progress so Fehoko can slide back over to his natural position and Shelvin and Livingston can man the middle until Alexander heals from whatever injury he has.

Orgeron also praised defensive lineman Glen Logan during drills. Orgeron has said Logan will be the starting left defensive end for the Tigers.

In the inside linebacking group, Devin White and Jacob Phillips were the first team, Patrick Queen and Tyler Taylor went second and Damone Clark and Micah Baskerville were third.

With all of those wide receivers, they can get a lot of QB reps in quickly during drills.

CEO mentioned something in that interview about Chase that was a big thing with Landry and Beckham. He said Chase has 10.5" hands. I remember that was a big thing back when Landry was being recruited. I am 6' tall and mine are just a smidge bigger than 8"

Yeah Burrow running with the 4th team is so unrealistic and deceiving.

It was the right thing to do on the first practice. Didn’t mean anything. They all got equal reps.

Good stuff, Ree. Well, except for the “Eaux” thing—that will never be okay, but you do you and thanks for the info.
