Would be a better hire than I was expecting. The good thing is that he isn't an alum of a blue blood, or has any ties with a major basketball program. If LSU pays him, I wouldn't see him leaving for Clemson.

Make the move, Joe.

S- I would also like to try for Pasternek but we may have to wait too long for him. It would be a risk.

The VCU tree hasn't been very fruitful when moving to major conferences.

Shaka Smart and Anthony Grant both had slightly more success than Wade and it didn't translate in a bigger conference.

That said, he'd be a better hire than many of the other names thrown around. He could also stay around a long time of it works out because he's only 34.

He's young...only 34. But he was able to turn things around at Chattanooga. He's also done well at VCU. I'd be on board with this if it transpired.

I like it , certainly alot better than we have had with Jones or Johnson. Make it happen Alleva.

Give me Mike Rhoades if we're going for former VCU guys. This is uninspiring to me.

People try to connect the lines too much in coaching trees. Every situation is different. Just because Smart and Grant didn't work out very well doesn't mean Wade would have the same misfortune. I personally think that would be a very good hire, but like I said no one knows for sure.

With the name "Will Wade", he would have fit in very well around here during the floods in August....

Shaka's been at UT for 2 seasons and have a good first year, not so great 2nd year. A tad early to call it eh.

Shaka's first year they weren't any better than Barnes' last year and they were terrible this season. So far he's a disappointment. Capel is another VCU coach who didn't work out on the big stage.

Would be an awesome hire! Motivates, understands the X's and O's and has relationships in strong basketball states.

I live in the Richmond area and Smart was a SUPERSTAR at VCU and the area. Wade is not even close and to be honest the program seems to be on a downturn. Remember VCU does not have a football program, so their athletic budget must be limited. I don't know if they could or would outbid LSU?

The fact that Wade wasn't on the flight back to BR with Alleva is not a good sign.

Vcu doesn't tend to get in bidding wars. Seems to be used to being a hopping stone for bigger programs.

Plus don't see them fighting to keep will Wade. He's done well/kept somewhat the status quo(NCAA trips), but you're right was considered a meh replacement to smart.

I would be okay with the hire. LSU has been a dumpster fire for the last several years anyways.

Would be great to have a youthful, energetic coach who coach who seems to understand basketball. Instant upgrade IMO.

I say we speak to a few more and close the deal on one of the names I've seen mentioned today.

Aka his agent threw this out to ESPN, wade will get huge raise and contract extension at VCU, and alleva will give the job to Kent Lowe when he gives an awesome PowerPoint presentation
